Harmon Rocket

Yes veery pleasing Grumpy and cannot remember being so confident immediately with a model had no nerves taking off and it was such a joy to fly and so easy to land.

In between showers managed to get a couple of flights in this afternoon,After 2 flights with the Swift.I started to get the Harmon Rocket ready.It started to spit with rain again.Popped the Swift into the truck and it had stopped,It had become a bit dull but I couldnt resist.Fired up the SC 52,and its is such a superbly revvy crisp engine.Well all I can say is this was silly grin time,.Perfect take off andproceeded to carry out low fast passes turning as I approache to get a good look at the model as if flew passed,sensational.The choice of a back step and buy the Swift was good,Buying a second Harmon Rocket,just sensational.Loved every second of the flight and the landings were perfection.It was getting worse but I couldnt resist a 2nd flight,glad I did ,I was grinning from ear to ear,lov this aeroplane.Im going to enjoy my flying this year,these 2 models are a stunning pair.

Just cogitating.The carb on my Rocket is lose because both threads are gone that the fixing screws screw into on the carb base.But it performs perfectly.Thinking of buying a new carb.

I went flying with the Rocket Sunday morning and had a good 1st flight especially the landing.I changed the prop to a 12x7 and then couldnt get the engine to rev.I decided most likely a screw that held the carb ib place had fallen out,or the carb being loose had started leaking air.I packed up,came home,stripped the cowl off,and removed both screws both loose,neither would tighten due to stripped threads.I replaced both with self tapping screws which tightened up really well.Ran the engine up,and it was running so well,couldnt get it to tickover.Had to readjust the push rod,then readjust the throttled tickover on the transmitter.Its ready to flyagain,looks like Wednesday.

If my theory is correct the reason I had to reset the tickover is it was revving to high.I think that was due to curing an air leak from the loose carb.If so it should go better.Hopefully I should find out later today,if I get any sleep and wake up on time.

Sounds like a reasonable assumption Stephen - curing the air leak would change the fuel air ratio.

Im going to experiment with the prop also.Ive gone from a 12x5 to 12x 7 and it sounds over propped.Im going to try an 11x7,recommended.This afternoon after flying I beefed up the wing mount both sides.This is the only problem I ever had with my first one.

I have to say after flying today I LOVE THIS MODEL:

Had 3 good flights yesterday and changing the tank was the right thing to do.The wind was tricky and across the strip,the Rocket doesnt like slowing down and on the 2 nd landing it bounced quite high,I gave it full power and it rose serenly for another circuit much to the cheers of the other members and it did feel good.The next landing was perfect very fulfilling.It shows how good it was alfa male kept quiet always a good sign.
