Ebenezer..

I've fitted the empennage, bound the UC legs to the front of the fuselage and added some pegs for the rubber bands. She now looks like this:






All it needs now is some wheels and a motor fitting and she'll be ready to fly. I'm hoping to get some decoration onto the model before the weekend, but it's not critical. It'll all depend on the time available.....

I've added wheels, a motor, a profiler and a few items of decoration, so she's now ready to test. I'll velcro the profiler and LiPo in place when I've found the position of the C of G. The original plan showed both the wings and tailplane at zero incidence with the C of G near the trailing edge of the upper wing. I've added a bit more longitudinal stability by giving the wings positive incidence and the tailplane negative, so my C of G will be further forward.

Thanks Chris. It was scanned off the plan, imported into TurboCAD, traced, cleaned, saved, the result imported into Silhouette Studio, resized, then cut from Solar Trim using a Craft Robo Cutter Plotter. The latter has now been superseded by the Silhouette Cameo.

It took a bit of time, but I now have the logo sorted and can cut or print to any (reasonable) size in any available colour.

I am amazed that is Solar trim, quite a tool the Robo cutter and presumably you did a separate cut just for the very fine lines ? or did you do a new version and just use the fine lines. 'Turbocad' and 'Silhouette Studio' I have not used, I'm stuck on Photoshop and scanning in good old pen and ink so I haven't tried CAD yet, I'm thinking I probably should

Ah...I have to confess that the fine lines didn't cut too well - the blade kept picking up the solar trim. So I added those afterwards with a lumocolour pen. I've successfully cut letters down to 2mm and circles down to 1mm diameter, but you have to choose your medium. Thicker masking film cuts better than the thinner stuff.

You can download Silhouette Studio for free. It's a pretty fair drawing programme and I could have done what I needed solely in that. However, I've been using TurboCAD since Version 1 which was bundled with my first PC laptop back in 1992, so I find it easier to draw/draft in that.

I would wholly recommend CAD. I did a tutorial for TotalCAD here:

It can be bought off the net for less than a tenner...but there're good free CAD downloads as well.

I'll have my laptop with me over the weekend, so you can have a look at what I have on that, if you wish...

Thanks for link Andy very much appreciated. I think CAD is the way to go now . Good to see your Ebenezer successfully taking to the skies. I had to add this to the thread. It's my mate Mick's original Bert Striegler design Ebenezer but I think his pilot has exactly the right attitude and expression to fly an Ebenezer

Its actually powered by a DC Dart , it's difficult make out in the photo as it viewed from above. It flew very well today even in the blustery wind, a credit to it's builder Mick.

So today was the 2017 Ebenezer Competition which this year attracted around 70 entries. Lots of unusual designs from a Star Wars X-Wing fighter to the tradition designs like the original Bert Streigler bipe




One of my favourites was last year's winner Steve Robert's new entry a Vampenezer. It didn't make the final but put in some superb flights in the blustery wind. Its powered by a DC Wasp so howled nicely too. The white patch on the wing was from and earlier flight where it flew so well it managed to reach the trees near the new hangers and lost a chunk of its wing, luckily I carry some scrap balsa which filled the hole nicely. There was also a flying bomb, and a Dumbo that made the final a lovely Fokker Eindeker that was flying very well in the afternoon and a great looking Albatross DV in Yellow that flew very well too




Andy's Vespa put in some good flights on the Saturday and I think at least two of the triplanes were his too. The spread of models made a feast of flat plate, profile madness.




Amazingly my Dick Dastardly-enezer made it through to final and managed to fly the best flight its ever done , even skimming over the heads of the crowd before flying to the edge of the field .. Not sure what I did there ... but It's a great honour to be custodian of the Ebenezer Trophy for the year
