I think maybe the fan is always farther back, on the edf's i have they are two thirds of the fuselarge back, but they are foamies

That is a good point, but i am trying to keep the weight down by having as much as pos either on or in front of the cofg.

I doubt it will work very well, but if you don't try you never know

planking the thrust tube.



once this bit is done i can make up the first part of the fuselage and glue it on, then we can look at the rest of the fuselage.
i should just have enough room for the 2 servos either side of the edf unit with the esc in the nose with the battery.

but it is all suck it and see development this one.

The MCB BLUE ARSED FLY might not even fly. :P

A nice looking build.
I may be wrong but that wing section looks a bit thick for what needs to be a fast flyer to get the best from the EDF.

i did debate that myself, but as the wing tends to be a floater i thought it would more likely end up a power assist more than an outright power plane.

but it is all experimental. :P

600watt motor in a 3lb plane might just work.

I calculate 44cm2 for that fan area. I would suggest more inlet area, if I may be so bold! The outlet looks fine.

Where I'm coming from is, the fan has to draw air in, there will be a certain amount of compression performed by the EDF, which will tend to increase the airspeed at the thrust pipe, (this is good). However if the inlet is the same size, or smaller then this won't happen.:)

I have enlarged the wing openings for the intake ducts to give 48sqcm overall area.
i can still add a cheat intake under the fuselage if needed.

the rear of the fuselage looks weak but is quite strong and with the smaller tail i have planned we should be able to keep the weight down to under 3lbs.

Hmmmmm 3 lbs.

Do you know the quoted static thrust from your 75mm fan?

You will need a good 2lbs for even modest flying.

50oz of thrust.

so weight saving is a priority.

mind you the mkI funfly weighs in at 2lb 10oz flight ready, so if i can save a little bit more we should be ok for gentle flight.

Well today has seen some more progress.

got the tailplane fin and rudder all built.



The air intakes have been made, just need lining next.


Upped the intake size to 60 sqcm now.

And started sheeting the d box on the main wing.


not sure about the u/c yet, looks like i might need trike u/c. so wing mounted main legs.
just adds to the weight though.
