D.P.R Rare Bird Sailplane

Do you mean the top spar on the tailplane (remember I am still new to remembering all the bits on this, think it will take a few more builds before my brain remembers them!)
the fin will fit into the gap, like so, then the leading edge will rest on a plywood wingseat that is attached in a notch to the fuselage. If that helps? There isnt anything as such to tie over the top spar, bar the covering when it gets done. But for the trailing edge and leading edge, the fin should help keep that more rigid I assume? This is also kept attached with rubber bands that wrap around the tailplane and a dowel just beneath the leading edge.



Needs a bit of light sanding to make sure it fits flush, not too happy about the way it was pre cut but not hard to sort out.

Sorry, not looked in for a while, stockport models trades from home, web only, if you want to carry on with this type of build--and why not? then you want the WESTINGS series, not only do they look well, they actually FLY, i will sort out this cra--erm, stuff for you next week, in there, is a small 3 channel model, that needs superficial covering repair, a small lekky motor, and radio, and you ill be flying 3 channel radio, then, there is the mini IFO, lots of fun, and crashproof, let me know what tools you havnt got, i have them in spades, and i will find you enough balsa to play with, let me know what you may be needing, and i will have a dig around,

Just wanted to see what it would look like all together and am well chuffed to little mint balls!!! When I first read the plan and instructions I really doubted I could do this but thanks to all of you for your really kind words of encouragement and help

got to get some new rubber bands to go around the wings ( They are a bit brittle the ones that came with it and have snapped- guess thats age lol), drill underneath the wing seat doublers so can put in a dowel for the rubber on the wings to attach to, add ballast and a bit of tidying up and voila.

What will you be covering it with?

In respect of the tail;plane spar, I agree with Eric and Q in that normally the spar should carry through for strength. However, in this case, the spar would meet at an angle at the joint, so if it did carry though it would still rely on a small glued area. In any event, on this tailplane, you have some quite beefy gussets attached to quite beefy LE and TEs, so there shouldn't be a problem. The fin, when attached, should also spread the load over the two root ribs.

PS - good point on the rubber bands K, in fact a lot of the competition FF boys keep their rubber in the freezer! I buy mine from Staples, btw. They have a soft and good stretch which is ideal for holding flying surfaces on a lightweight model.

i always keep my lacky bands in a plastic bag, with a generous amount of talcum powder, keep them dry,
RIGHT,
swan morton surgical knife, and LOTS of blades, but these aqre the same as surgeons use, so be carefull,
Razor saw, and maybe a handle,
Razor plane, if i can find one that takes standard razor blades,
miss bits of balsa and block,
can anyone think of anything else, if i have it in multiples, then no problem,
PLANES,
3Channel type trainer,
various other things that are going to get thrown out,
lightspan covering material, and some balsa lock, IF i can find them,

anthing else anyone can think of, i will try to find, lets have a list, its christmas after all, HURRY UP

Dean I have nooooooooo idea lol! It comes with white tissue, and I do love the balsa wood being bare (but it wont fly like that will it haha) put white tissue on and you could prolly see the balsa through it in the sun however for some reason tissue doesnt feel right on this plane, prefer tissue on the WW1 planes and pre WW1

Will raid Mr Cantwells goodie box.

I think the rubber bands have snapped because the kit is about 30 years old lol, obviously gone brittle so will get a bag of bands some time
