Q, I have that Warpaint book, what you say in regards to the flap not being hinged does account for the movement, but drawings clearly show a pivot point.... strange , Sqd 137 and 263 where the only ones that operated them and only in the UK 1941 to 43 , before they changed to Tiffies, I'm still waiting for a reply from the Whirlwind project
Thanks guys
B

Still no word today from the Fighter Project, so I'll give the wing a rest for awhile, with the rudders built, also the upper fin, it was time to nail all these item on. the upper rudder needs to be driven from the lower portion, sq. tubing achieved this with a bearing tube passing through the tailplane, it was little tight, but work out ok in the end, next is to tackle that "knob" dividing the two parts, that'l be fun

Tony B pointed me to a Facebook group on the Whirlwind. I had a look at it this evening and found a short IWM film on the Whirlwind that included a sequence of the flap and radiator flap retracting:

Isn't that what I suggested earlier - turn it 'inside out', and put the rail on the flap, and the pin on the wing?

:woohoo: [badass]

Hi fellas, I have heard back from the Fighter project, and they sent me a load of actual drawings, plus interesting pics, I have tried to download to this site I hope it works, but it shows that the nacelle pivot point is not what posted pis show, the nacelle is mounted on an arm that pivots on te U/C frame, further forward than what is usually shown, almost directly below the flap L/E, so there is no trickery after all, it the ol' saying "K.I.S.S."which elates greatly as My idea is pretty right, except ya can see mine  :) :) :)
Nope it looks like that didn't work (pics)

Send your pic's to photobucket which auto resizes them for free, then click on the IMG box on the right, (it flashes yellow and shows copied) then 'paste' it onto the forum page.

Yes me too. Love to see the details.

I'm currently unsupervised. I know it freaks me out as well, but the possibilities are endless!!
