been gluing the tailplane and elevator together.

now i need to wait for it to dry and we can then sand it to shape and try to fit it to the fuselage.
question:- do you think i need to fit more gussets.

Tony, how do you curve them?
Cos my way at the moment seems to be 1) run to kettle with wood 2) run back to plan 3) run back to kettle quickly to do a bit more curving, 4) run very fast back to repin to plan before the steam affect wears off! is there an easier way than that? Your's are beautifully curved.

I soak them in the bath for 30mins and then they curve quite well.
pin them in place to dry and they hold the curve quiet well.

Ah thank you, I was scared of soaking mine with them being so thin but would that be ok to do with balsa thinner than the pieces you are using?

You can soak any size of balsa for as long as you want Sarah, it will never melt...........but the longer you soak it, the bendier it will be! (up to the point where it breaks   )

Read Thor Heyerdahl's book Kon Tiki - they soaked several balsa logs in salt water for several months, and they only sank - eventually!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

well back to the build.

stern post going in, checking its upright.

then we have to square up the tailplane and fit the sockets that hold the fin on.

on to the next job i suppose.
