Brilliant, any thoughts on how to lighten the tail?

I didn't think that there was much structure in the tail anyway, but I guess the carbon pushrods could be replaced with kevlar string. I think the main culprit is paint. Yellow takes a bit of covering to make it opaque, and i had to use a coat of tamiya matt white to help on that score. pick a silver subject perhaps, or one with a denser paint?
I would also probably use mylay rather than tissue and spray straight over that.

Interesting exercise for next year though :)

Cheers
Danny

STOP PRESS - there was a major error in the result calculation and Danny did, in fact, get a well deserved FIRST PLACE.

May I be the first to congratulate him on here.

That's why Officers have 'scrambled egg' on their cap peaks! [badass]

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Unfortunately due to inclement weather the Indoors Scale R/C Nationals was cancelled so I now have even more time to make improvements to my Piper Cub. I have been playing with adding ailerons to the wings. This gives much more control, and has allowed me to reduce the dihedral to scale. This months RCM&E covers how I have added the ailerons, and very effective they are too. However flying the model has highlighted that I had become lazy with the rudder, and the Cub turns with the rudder and the wings are balanced with the ailerons. So I have been putting in lots of practice on the sim and flying quads to get all the sticks moving, and not focussing on just the right stick (mode 2).
anyway some pics showing the new wings under construction:

One more picture showing how the ailerons are "pulled" down from their upwards resting position by thread. I have subsequently changed the thread for polyester clear or invisible thread, this doesn't "fluff" up as much when airbrushed.
The old wings weighed 10g each the new wings also weigh 10g each, but now include ailerons, servos, hinges and wire. So I am pleased that I have managed this with zero weight gain.
