Weston UK Cap 232 Build Blog was created by Tom T
Hi All,

So it begins!

This is going to be the build blog of the Weston UK Cap 232 kindly donated to me by a very nice gentlemen (not sure if I am allowed to say his name). So far I have read the review article in the 1999 issue of RCME and have had all the parts surrounding me in the 'workshop'. Really can't wait to get started, can't really believe how much this kind gentlemen has given me, I really can't thank him enough!

Throughout the thread I hope to post a full build blog and show first flights. I will take some pictures later so you can all see how the model is at the moment and what I look to do with it. Hoping to have it flying by spring so its going to be a busy few months, I hope to rope in a professional builder to help me out a little with covering etc but the rest I will be doing myself.

More to come....

Thanks

Tom

Me too aha, A little anxious on how its going to go. I have to decide on an engine, servos, electronics etc. The engine the gentlemen gave me was a Magnum 120, he said it would be to heavy to put in the plane but he gave it to me anyway to trade or sell it to fund a new one  :cheer: (soo kind!) . Anyway, any suggestions?
I am also looking for someone who is good at covering, I could do it myself but id mess it up big style aha also I don't have a covering iron etc so its cheaper to get someone to do it for me.

Sorry for no photos, I was really busy today and will be for the next week (what with homework, cadets and a full weekend first aid course next weekend) I hope to get some up during the week, watch this space :woohoo:

OK, will do. What covering should I use? I think I will probably end up doing it all myself but I will be upset if I mess it up.

Cobble up a cornflakes box plane, and practice on that with a piece of solarfilm. You'll soon get the hang of it. Get a cheap clothes iron from the supermarket, and wrap a yellow duster around the plate. That will do fine. I use a small 'travel iron' for the fiddly bits. Start off on the wool setting - about 1/3 from cold, and gradually turn the heat up until you find the spot that suits you.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Looking forward to seeing this build come together Tom

I used solarfilm on my last build, it isn't to tricky.
Like Eric I use a travel iron and slowly increased the heat.

If you dont cover this one, you wont cover the next, and the next, until you have convinced yourself you CANT do it. DO IT YOURSELF. If you make a mess of it, strip it and do it again. At your age, the word cant should not exist.

A little update. It has been very slow the past few weeks, what with school and air cadets! I think I will buy some parts today, maybe Futaba 3001s and then an engine of some sort. What do you think is the best covering for it? I'm a little stuck on what to buy, I'm a little nervous i'll mess it up and I really don't want to! Please could I have some advise!

Much love aha
