If the engine is getting that hot it definitely points to extreme leaning out. Have you tried the old trick of richening up on full throttle until it 4 strokes, then leaning out until it only just two strokes?

Do it now, you may never get another chance

This thing is sending me grey, took it out this morning and it cut after a couple of minutes, had a heavey landing and knocked the tail wheel off ( no wonder it is screwed on into 3/32 balsa )
So i ran it on the ground and finnished up after an hour or so with it tethered to a post running flat out for long spells then ticking over then full power again until i had used the full tank of fuel.
Its mended now waiting for tomorrow morning, so keep them crossed :( ;) :P

THE MOKI WINS, had enough of it now went this morning had a flight and it died, let it cool down opened the needle valve 1 turn took off everything going good then bang it stopped dead,
Landed and the propeler and spinner had gone the prop nut was still there ??? a little damage to the cowl.
So thats it a new petrol engine or electric i dont have either at the moment.

Is the prop hub still there? It sounds like the spinner shattered, and wiped off the prop blades, if it is.
Will the engine still turn over, with another prop on it?

Hmmm - haven't stuck my nose in before this but I've been following the thread with interest. I have a Moki the same as yours BB - it's in my Mk 9 Spitfire - I had similar problems to you at the start and after much mumbling and cursing I finally twigged to the problem - the airflow through and around the cowl!! It worked fine on the bench - and on the ground with the cowl OFF. Put the cowl on and put it up - motor would cut out after about 5 minutes! SO - I modified the cowl with some internal ducting - problem solved - the airflow around the motor with the cowl on was non existent and it cut out because the motor overheated! Make sure the airflow can get OUT as well as into the cowl!!!!

After i posted on here i was unconscious for fifteen hours did not know what hit me woke up this morning fine went to the shed found i had remove the Moki, i must have been ill to be in such a negative mood to give in to an airplane engine, now it is back in the 232 and ready for tomorrow morning,
Read your post Grumpy and have put some tempory internal ducting as you said and opened the air outlet although it was big i had looked at it before and decided it was ok

Sounds a good point that Grump's ... maybe that engine doesn't have sufficient cooling fins & can't cope with a restricted airflow.???????

I win got the cap flying ok this morning, the air ducts work, i also fitted a larger bore fuel pipe, i had it for the turbine its for petrol not glow so ill have to change it this week, but the two improvements worked, i had to turn the needle valve in quite a few turns and it was still running rich, the second flight turned it in a few more turns and bingo it went very well.
Thanks Grumpy for the input, next time stick your nose in sooner :P :P :P

Glad I could help BB - the Moki really is a nice motor AND being the modest Colonial Gentleman that I am I won't even stick it up Garry - BUT - it is sooooo tempting. :P :P :P :P :P :P      Oh - and Gasser - thanks for the compliments. :woohoo:

Perhaps Moki's don't like being hot, and we tend to forget that Cyprus is about 200C warmer than the UK summer!
