With a mate we built a couple of glass-fibre canoes using a rented top and bottom moulds.
We then decided to use the moulds to make a glass-fibre plug from which we could then make out own mould.
No problem with the plug it cane out fine but when we used it to make the mould it would not separate properly despite having been release wax polished and with a release agent.
We then discovered from the mould maker that a new mould has to be left to 'cure' for several weeks to harden and to release all the solvent in the resin. It then has to be release wax polished everyday for a week to get the chemicals fully embedded into the surface and even then its first use is always tricky. The more it is used the better it becomes.
We never actually got our own canoes moulds.

Only problem is trying to keep it as light as possible i made it to thin, so will have to do another one :S
If it fly's ok
We will find out in the morning, a 6-30 maiden awaits

No need to start again, BB, just re-do the releasant, pop it back into the mold, and add another layer of glass around the edges, and a hoop or two over the top of the canopy. (Inside, of course!) :S

Has it flown yet? If so, how did it perform?

BB wrote - ginger tom started to sharpen his claws on the top of the wing - snipped
Don't worry! Missy decided that the tailplane of my big camera-carrying Fox was food, last night, and began to munch on it!
She was most upset when I clouted her backside!
After sulking in the garden until it rained on her, she decided that being in was better tha being out, and sulked by the food dish until I re-filled it!
Anybody want a cat? :P

VERSION TWO

Made a start last night got the drawings out

Markked the formers out

After a couple of hours with my scroll saw

I had the formers cut from 2mm ply and the side strengtheners from 3mm ply
I had marked the formers for 2mm side pieces but found i did not have enough so will have to make some ajustments to the formers
