i don't think there will be an issue re weight, what i forgot to mention is that due to it having an 80 in it rather than the 62 it needed 5 ounces of lead in the tail to balance it, so all the metalwork,wood,servo,s/linkages and lead removed so far all weigh over 5 lbs, the new u/c weighs less than 2 with its temporary (too small) wheels, the stainless can weighs less than the standard twin boxes, so its all going the right way, incidentally before i Dremmel the other wing panel i might just weigh it out of curiosity to see how many grams i save.

been on hold a while due to me injured paw, so not a lot done but some has now restarted, tailplane was removed carefully with a sharp axe!! :'' elevator hinges were robarts and as they were about the third set of hinges that had been installed over its life i have taken the plunge and removed the tailplane trailing edge and elevator leading edges sawn orf, will be making new ones by cutting a thin (1mm) ply core and laminating it up with 6mm balsa to give the 1/2 inch thickness of the originals, the reason for this is that as i have access to a laser cutter i can cut the core complete with slots for some kavan flat hinges that will be perfectly aligned and will have a removable hinge pin installed to allow for batter maintenance also will be easier to cover and finish.
sorry no pics yet, will try to get some tonight :af

i took the plunge and sawed the fixed tailplane orf a couple of weeks ago, now to refit accurately i drew up a simple design for a lightply "facing" for the fus sides and tailplane ends and cut them out on a laser cutter, you can see them here.
this allowed perfect alignment of the tube to take the piano wire joiners.
