Unfortunately after 18 months of rebuild and testing the DH suffered yet another problem on about its 8th flight, it was to have been a weekend of final testing and certification, its over 20kgms, ready for its strip down and repaint for the new show season, short story, on its landing circuit,back line, there was a loud bang which subsequently turned out to be one of the rudder cables coming detached and going through and destroying the prop, but when the bang was heard the prop situation was unknown as engine was still running, i immediately called landing and turned into an approach, but i think now due to the loss of thrust the model immediately stalled and spun, i managed to recover the spin but at an altitude that was insufficient to gain flying speed thus when i tried to pull out it spun again and landed nose first quite hard, it is now in storage until i can decide what to do or even get the enthusiasm up for another long rebuild, it needs a new fuselage, and 4 new wing panels, as anything made from wood is broken, 22 kgms of model stopped within 12 inches, the length of the front of fus but all the metal bits took 16 inches to stop,

so i dont know how much to post at present as i am working on other models which leaves little time for typing,(and i an conscious that my threads tend to be tediously long as i dont do ARTF,s very often and even then they seem to take me 5 times longer than anyone else, cant stop "modifying things" and i fear folk may fall asleep or get boredlong before the end, even me!! apart from Pacer, i am 90 percent through 3 gliders refurbs, a ASK 18, a Pic 20 and a Slingsby Vega, with 3 more waiting a !/3 scale grunau Baby, and a 1/3 scale Penrose pegasus vintage, and at the very end a SG 38 primary trainer, most of which will probably be for sale at some future point to fund a certain models restoration,

But.............means the next time you try chucking cellatape at me, and miss I hasten to add , I can take the mick out of you missing a landing as well
Reckon you got enough to keep you busy and one day, by chance you will wander past the box of bits...start tinkering and voila the DH2 will be back up and running in no time

Brief update, after a scare with my mum and hospitals, i have gotten back into the shed, was discussing the DH earlier tonight and its still in the Shall i just burn it or not pile at present, the pacer is nearing completion as i have spent all my spare time on it,

here is a couple of pics










this just shows the back of the fus where it fairs into the fin, on the real one the fairing is just fabric, so thats what i have attempted to reproduce on the model, solar tex is attached to the fus and fin LE as well as the TE and the first "rib" up from the base, you have to do this whilst warming it a bit here and there to get it to stretch and shape to all the odd angles, then with careful use of a heat gun the fabric is slowly shrunk so it pulls to a natural curve, had to do one side twice first time looked like it had been covered in a crisp packet,

next one is a quick look at the covered wing panels, no ailerons or flaps on yet, (they are done now, fitted and linked up and working),

That does looks lovely, if I can get the curves on the Rarebird as neat and seemless as that I will be well chuffed!

(If Mrs P finds out you are that good at getting creases out with a heat gun you will find yourself with a ton of ironing to do hehe)

Well, i am of the ther way of thinking, every wood part has gone, you cannot salvage covering,, its not worth the effort, move on, its done you no favours Chris, you deserve better than a tempramental airframe that needs constant work, its taught you a lot, but sometimes, the graft is not worth the rewards you have not got,

one last try, i am told i am trying to post to many or too big a pic, despite the fact that only half a dozen posts up i have posted 6 in one post, nothing has changed with me taking them and i have never had to resize them previously for this forum but here goes.

first up is the finished template for the windscreen made from firstly several pieces of card to get the shape of individual parts of screen ie around the wing root then all stuck together and a complete shape cut and fitted and trimmed and refitted till it well fit!!




then two of the fitting of the screen






here you can see the masking tape around the edges and the pencil marks for the hole pos,ns for the fixing screws, size 00 x 3mm self tappers,
finally one from the front which shows it fitted albeit temporarily as it will be fitted with an alluminium frame once all is painted

looking good Chris, and do i see a nice looking silencer there?? glad you persevered, i got your Pm, but was not able to help you, cos, like you, no idea what's wrong, so, in sheer desperation, i forwarded the problem to Gazza, then, asked the techy ones at work, and they say too much content, and also advise to cut, paste, and store, and when the article is complete, post a bit at a time, Anyway, pipers looking great, dont you dare bogger orf!!!!!!! anyway, got a new female member, and she is one Awesome builder of models, well worth staying for,

what you have to remember is I HATE computers and if they dont work as they did previously i have no idea what to do, AT ALL!!! so when previously i could post 6 pics no issues then 5 days later i cant my brain cell shuts off,

so a couple more then its off to the shed

dont know if i have posted these before lost track of whats been allowed or not

tailplane rigging is double what is on the real one to allow for the removeable tailplanes to be locked in place by it and to give some protection to the elevators and rudder from the tow cable, its carbon fibre rod and 2mm clevises and extenders, will be clad in heat shrink when finally at the correct settings



tailwheel is a commercial sprung unit,



just needs the bracket on rudder bottom cables and springs,
a quick look into fus at the rudder servo and RX installation, elevator servos are above the rudder servo in another tray on fus centre line
