The air brakes are "top only" giving the ASW 17 a shallow maximum approach angle although there was apparently a factory fitted additional parachute brake option!
There was also a BGA approved modification to create more conventional top and bottom airbrakes that increased the available approach angle.

Not like the good old days where the T49 trainer glider's big air brakes kept it below its never exceed speed even in a vertical dive! 

They do actually work then, i used to look at the ones on the vulcan bomber and think what use are those 

I am not sleeping still and just looked on Leeds model shop at airbrakes  they start at £66 and go over 100 so if it gets ant ill make me own
But i dont think ill be bothering as im not be going to fly the thing

The BMFA News latest mag on page 18 & 19 show some hill soaring models but none approach this aspect. 

Hung it on my luggage scales, it said 1.334Kg

That aerotow comment got me thinking, will it or wont it, so i looked into it and unpacked the boxes
 
And yes it will but only just, it will not fit in the wooden box so it will not be coming back

So i can just squeeze my stuff in as well, the rudder tailfeathers and elevator are inside the Bucker
Ill star to glass the fuse tomorrow then get a second coat of resin on over the weekend
 
So that its gone off by Tuesday and can go in the box

Not when you see the rubbish workmanship

They were nothing Eric LOL its the ones where my fingers keep going through it 
AND NOW a disastrous day in the shed i started the glassing of the fuselage
 
Laid the cloth on mixed up enough resin to do the job and more using her indoors scales as mine would not work, gave it a really good mixing and started spreading it on with an old  credit after a while i felt the paper cup with the resin in getting hot in my hand, it had started to go off, and quickly and melt my credit card
 
Not to amused as its expensive stuff the Wests resin, i thought i must have mixed it wrong, so mixed some more and carried on
Only to find the new cup getting hot in my hand again so rushed to got as much done as possible as i do not have any other
By this time it was foaming it the cup ( the first mix just went hard ) and choking me
 
 
Iv had it a while but not to long i got it to do the control line model
Then i had to sneak her scales back inside as she had come home 
Im sitting here doing this post and my face is stinging from the fumes 
Afraid it will have to go to S.A. like it is as i dont have time to get more resin sand it all back and do the top half
