Prusa Mk 4

I've finally chucked in the towel with my Anet A6, I can't get constant sticktion across the build platform. It's done me well, I think the problem is the heated bed. I tried to buy a new bed in Oz without success. Mostly because nobody opens until the 24th or so. Knowing that Jon is mega pleased with his Prusa mini I've just ordered a Prusa Mk 4. Blame it on the need for some retail therapy while suffering from Covid!

Hi Simon, the A6 bed is also aluminium but is now slightly dished, my own fault, by about .2mm. At the moment I can't find another anywhere except the Anet site but they won't send to South Africa.
I ordered a Hotbed XY-3 Pro from a local site (www.botshop.co.za) on the grounds that its Specifications said it was 220 x 220mm.
 
What arrived was 315 x 315mm, Despite a number of emails they haven't deigned to reply.

You can see from this shot the maximum between the vertical sides is 235mm
 
The new bed is just ridiculous!
 

The local unwritten rule is "never give the money back"

I must say I'm mega impressed with Prusa, my kit arrived on Thursday, we were in town, Mary is not well, the severe anaemia is fixed but now her Sciatica giving her gip!
I was able to get he box home and in the den without her being any the wiser!
The Prusa is any colour you like as long as it's black and orange.
 
The black parts are powder coated aluminium, the fit and finish is nothing short of amazing
 
The main frame is a casting, the 'feet' are 30mm extrusions. Knowing castings can 'pull' I checked the frame for flatness, perfect.
 
Here the end plates are on, the instructions say check the unit for 'rock' on a flat surface, up to 2mm is acceptable, there was none measurable!

The next job is to mount the power pack and the 'buddy box' 

 
Next up is the Y motor and return wheel.
 
There are a few cabling clips to go on the base.
The format of the printer is identical to the Anet A8

 

The frame now gets put on one side to concentrate on the X axis.
 
All of the orange parts are ABS, fit and finish is so good that I didn't have to relieve or adjust anything.
You do have to lubricate the bearings using the supplied grease and 3D printed applicator.
 
Guide rails and bearings in. The Z rails are 10mm the X rails are 8mm
 

X carriage is on, not fully secured, along with the motor, tensioner and toothed belt.
 

The Z motors come with the lead screws already fastened, nothing can be seen I presume they're glued on to the motor shafts.
 
Finally the X carriage is lowered on to the Z rails and held temporarily with a supplied clip to stop it from dropping while you put the lead nuts on.
 
I'm very impressed with the level of attention to detail. Next up, the extruder.

Totally irrelevent - but I do wish there was some way - in written English - of differentiating between lead (the heavy soft metal) and lead (the cord that you tie to a dog, etc!)
