Of course, you and I could do so much clearing up, couldn't we???

You call that a mess??? That's nothing! I'll have to video my mess! There are fifteen fixed wing and four helicopters in the living room alone! All of them ready to go once the batteries are charged - plus my ham radio gear, a big computer, my hifi stuff, half a library, various peripherals for the previous - and a guest-cat that is asleep on the couch!
Upstairs, in my bedrom, is a stack of unstarted artf's and a couple of foamies, and an OO model railway round two sides, plus the usual bedroom furniture.
I don't dare go into my son's bedroom, as it is his home-office and sleeping space. He has three computers in there, that I know of - all in use daily. (and two dead 'puters on the landing at the top of the stairs  the graphics cards blew up under the strain!)

Unfortunately, the model railway also qualifies as a flat space -no further comment is needed!
 

The fact that it started to work when you hammered the pump would indicate a fuel problem, it's not maybe the filter?
