Just in case anyone's interested, Tony is talking about coming to visit me, fingers crossed. I'm hoping he can bring the Bucker out with him. This post is to bump the Biucker thread up to the top.

Started to strip down the bucker for its trip to SA
Take the undercarriage off
Then the top centre section of the wing the top wing stays are also taken off now
Disconnect thhe elevators so they would fold up flat
And cut through the fins hinges to shorten the overall length of the box it travels in
There is one of the cockpit side doors missing ?????
Where i have no idea, it must have been knock while hanging in the garage

I've been wondering about a power plant for the Bucker, Tony tells me she weighed in at 9Kgs with its DLE55. The DLE is an excellent motor so I see no reason to change. The original motor is now obsolescent (side exhaust) the new version has a bit more power and a rear exhaust. SMC have a NiB old specification DLE55 5.2HP for 320Gbp or the new specification DLE55RA 5.5HP for 420Gbp
The burning question is which one to go for?

Can't help with that - outside my knowledge range!

The rear exhaust has 2 outlet pipes that point upwards, if you try to mount the other way the carburetor gets in the way!

I ment to say that the rear of the engine is the distance from the bulkhead to the rear most part of the engine the same, the side exhaust one has the carb at the back, just wondering as the distance to the front of the cowl and prop clearance might be an issue

Of course, fitting the RA shouldn't be a problem, and has the added advantage of lowering the fuselage centre of gravity.

The newer model does sound very tempting.

From what I can see the crank cases are almost identical, certainly the distance from the mounts to the rear most point of the carburetor is the same.

All dimensions are the same, except the mounting lugs, the DLE-55 lugs are 90mm side to side and 67mm top to bottom. The DLE-55RA lugs are almost identical 90mm side to side under the cylinder, 72mm at the lower crankcase and 67mm top to bottom.
The RA will fit provided the lower crankcase mounts can be moved in 6mm on each side.

Found 3 wood props for the DLE 55

23 x 8 and 22 x 10 both are good for the Bucker

Hi Tony, I might take you up on the offer of the Bucker plan, Balsa is no problem but suitable ply and spruce might be, can you give me some idea of other woods that are required for the build?
