The new servos work perfectly normally so the problem was not some much that it failed (had a few of those) but how it failed apparently creating instantaneous short circuits as it travelled. A new one on me.
Next is to put it all together just to make sure. Video to follow.

Here they are working from a servo tester using the full 1350 mm length servo wire.
So far so good.

Nothing worse than losing an entire model due to servo failure for the sake of a few extra quid ! Just saying.

If you read back a good way, there's a tale of my going to a certain shop to buy some, testing them at home, finding one was duff, taking it back, and the shop staff bringing some more out, and my testing them in the shop - two of which were duff!

Just to make matters even worse one of the aileron servos does the same thing :woohoo: and being on a Y they both hesitate! Must have been a suspect servo batch. They were all delivered together.
I have ordered 4 more digital 3.7g versions to replace those in the ailerons. Getting the old ones out and making good will be even harder than the elevators were.
In the mean time I have added the down turned tips.
Completely hollow just top and bottom 2mm Depron skins with a single Depron shear web.
Slightly less than the scale 'down' angle just to make sure the tip will pass easily between the engine nacelle and the fuselage when sliding in the wing.
Structurally it is now complete apart from the making good required after the aileron servos are replaced.

The servo certainly appears to behave quite normally on the short lead but the hesitation get progressively worse with the longer leads.
The camera does not really pick up the sound of the motor hesitation which is actually quite audible. Only when I moved the camera really close to the servo did it pick the 'hesitation' sound.
If you know a servo demonstrates this characteristic you can just about detect the motor hesitation even on a short lead but it is so slight you would not immediately reject it as faulty.

It does a pretty good job of 'hiding' the plank joints but because the paint is so thin it also seeps into any joint gaps to ensure each plank is fixed to its neighbour over the entire joint area. When dry the hard paint surface also makes it much easier to sand any joint imperfections.
I suppose I really should have weighed it before painting so I could obtain a 'before and after' painting but I am not sure I really want to know! :woohoo:

I am following this fairly early production model in the "as delivered" scheme simply because it is about the simplest I can find!
It then received received the markings of JG-1 as "Yellow 5".
I will see if it flies before going that far.

This is a hi res picture of the one at Duxford.
I know it has been bulled up with a gloss finish but the only panel lines you can see are the UC doors and ammo hatches.
The same applies to this 1945 photo of one on display in the US.
So I guess its the UC doors and ammo hatches.
