Ditto to Simons comment. Covering tips always needs some thought, mine always look naf.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Just take your time, covering is one of my favourite jobs, the others have seen the picture below but all the trim on my slicker is ironed on then shrunk ( it's tissue but the same principles apply) the black pinstripe on the tail and wing is only 1/8th wide, that's just doped on.

balsa is best.

That looks really nice. If I can get anything close to that, I'll be well chuffed.

I have an idea in my head of the colour scheme, but I'll probably just wing it a bit as I go.

I need to sand all the surfaces first though. The tail I practiced on is pretty rough, and every tiny bump and mark shows through.

It doesn't matter how much you sand, marks always show through![badass]
Sanding sealer helps but that's adding weight.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Something I recall reading a while back - I'm not guaranteeing it will work!
After you have thoroughly sanded the frame, give it a GOOD dusting, then wipe over it with a wet sponge!
Let it dry, then feel it, you'll be surprised how rough it is! The water allows all the loose fibre ends to stand up (no rude comments, thanks!), then you can sand it again with a very fine paper,, wet it again, and so on, until you get it as smooth as possible.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Standard practice Eric, for sheeted areas a light coat of sanding sealer works well.

I've been trawling the house for foam for the fuel tank, as I know I have loads. But we moved house this year, so finding anything is impossible.

Anyway, I got a cold food delivery today, and the insulation packing is made of sheep's wool in a plastic bag. It's a pretty thick sheet, probably 10-15mm, and compresses. It seems like it'd be ideal for the job.

Any downsides you could think of?

All good, as an aside, being organic there will be a great deal of natural damping, which is a good thing.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Looks good! You don't need me to tell you to thoroughly test the tank and connections before you fly, watched a guy recently pump around a pint of fuel into his model due to a leak!

Yeah, I've made a list of things that need checked, like making sure all the screws are tight and thread locked, wires properly connected etc.

I'm going to make a magnetic hatch in the panel in front of the windscreen so I can see the tank when refuelling, as it'll be hidden from inside once the dash is in place.

Oily stuff arrived

I wasn't expecting this till later in the week, so it was nice getting it today. It's a bit of a lump compared to the SC 46. But now when I look at the engine mount that was on the T180, I realise it was probably fitted with a 50 or 60 size engine, as the 46 mount is much smaller.

It's all starting to come together now. I'll get the rest of the covering I need tomorrow, and some other bits should arrive as well. Depending on how things go, I could have it finished in a week. Just in time for the end of summer

Yeah, I need to get one for it.

Recommended props are 11x8, 11x9, 12x7, 12x8. I think I'll go with a 12x7.

I know what the pitch and diameter numbers of the prop mean. But what difference does the prop size and pitch make to the engine?

I've got an 11x7 that I was going to use, but it's not one of the recommended sizes.
