You could put a balsa stringer across the hole to give something for the join to stick to, it'll add a bit of weight but no a lot. You can't join heat shrink across an open space, ask me how I know!

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Yeah, I might do that. But I was thinking of just doing the whole side white from top to bottom, then a blue panel from the bottom up on top of it. So I wouldn’t be joining them over a gap.

The stringer might be easier though, and would use less covering.

I think between the bigger engine and fuel tank, I’ll have enough weight up front to balance it out.

You will find that the white will sag when you try and put the blue on it.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Not really my field of expertise but compared to the fuselage edge that stringer will be much more flexible so I presume you add both the blue and the white film before you shrink anything.

Yeah, that’s the plan. I’ll only shrink the covering over the hole once all the covering is tacked in place.

Wing done. I’m quite happy overall how it turned out, it’s a bit rough in places if you’re up close. But it’ll look fine in the sky

I found it quite intense doing it, I never realised how much concentration is involved.

On to the fuselage (again) next, but I’m going to make templates first.

I’m getting new Precedent T180 decals made as well to go on the top.

Yeah, there’s a reason for the wide angle shots

I’ll not show you the bad bits. There’s a few big creases that I couldn’t get out.

Pulled a late one, and finished the fuselage. I really like the pinstripes, I think it finishes it off nicely.

Just the tail to do, then on to putting it all together.

I haven’t decided yet. There was a pilot in it, but he looks like he’s been through a few air wars

Back to where it started, sort of

Now just to install the electronics, controls, oh yeah, and the engine.
