Yes he was a lovely guy but became to nervous when below 100 feet.I never saw him fly but did see a few of his models. Most needed attention before they flew.

As you know, I am working to get this Lanc sorted, and into flying trim.

So folks, a cautionary tale about getting old .

A couple of days ago, I was doing some installation work in the fuz body, and saw that Tony had put 4 large allen bolts into captive nuts, but for some reason forgotten to tighten them . I was quite alarmed about this, as this isnt his style . I PM ed him about this and asked should I tighten them up ? His reply came back as quick as a flash "Only tighten them up when you have put the wings on, they are the wing bolts". Horizontal wing bolts ?? Of course they are DOH.

Now before anyone starts laughing, this is what happens as the years roll by :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

My only worry now is if Tony is getting old, cos he didnt report this ??????

Been working on the Lanc again and doing some little alterations.

Fitted the tail feathers and found cos there are now 2 servos for the rudder there was a support bar in the way. This was carefully removed and dropped 1/2 inch to clear the 2 servos . Now fits and works perfecty

Lipo , BEC and heavy duty switch fitted and wiring tidied and secured, some re routed. Fitted the nose which Tony has made detachable, hells bells its HUGE . If I have a complaint, it is this . Tony s building does amaze me, and it is his accuracy that really gets me. To explain, the bottom of the fuz has been made detachable and held on by 2 wing bolts. When these are removed if I had built it the loose part would drop off. Not this one, you have to gently pull it out, it is tight as it should be , but every part of the model is the same, so well built

More tomorrow

Bit more work done as wife went out for the day.

The big bottom tray was very difficult to bolt on as you have to guess where they go, so I have installed 2 metal tubes which now guide the holding bolts to the correct location.

Had the same prob with the tail feathers so have enlarged the aperture, so my old eyes can see the holding bolts ,covers will be made for these .
Next job is to install magnets to hold the motor nacelles secure and await the spinners which are being sorted by a mate across the road

Its getting there, but it is still huge!!!

Please note, this one will not be flown with an orange RX

When I bought a large van or minibus to sell off the forecourt,It always turned out to big and akward to park up,so always regretted buying such large vehicles.Do you sometimes feel the same having happily and conveniently transported your pulse for so long.

Well done a little more on the beast, but am stuck at the moment as the person who is doing the redesigning of the spinners has hurt his back, so will be a couple of days before they are done and installed. When they are done, the motors can be all tested But eventually the maiden will be done with the JR 9 channel RX after I follow Alans suggestion of installing it a hack and thrash hell out of it to test it out. His words , not mine :) :) However another job is to install magnets in the four battery covers, as even though Tony has made these very tight, they need to be secured

We are getting there.

Nothing much to report on readying the beast, however had a show pilot ring me up the other week, expressing his desire to view the model. He came today and spent a good hour looking at the Lanc. He had a 120 inch span one which he unfortunately damaged rather badly a short time ago. His first reaction to mine was amazement at how light it was, his second comment was to tell me to congratulate the builder on doing a superb build and finish on the model. He was quite honestly over the moon with his view of the model , as he was able to compare it with his, and he seemed rather envious that I had it . Well done Tony, I told you it was good
