First off, I've made up some dummy exhausts. The hole in the cowl was cut with a sharpened brass tube. The 'pipe' was cut from some ali tube slightly smaller than the brass stuff. The pipe was then sheathed with a ring of brass tube which will be used to adhere the pipe to the cowl. The intended effect is to have a hole in the cowl slightly larger than the tube. The following photos show stages in the build. The pipes have yet to be stuck into the cowl:
Next task was to make up some dummy control horns for the flying surfaces. There were taken from the full-size aircraft plans suitably reduced to model size. The elevators and rudder horns were made up from various sizes of ali tubing, the ailerons from litho plate. All will be painted white when complete on the model:
All should come clear tomorrow morning when the parts have been stuck to the model.
I've also made up an engine air intake (no photo as it's hidden under masking tape at the moment) and prepared some balsa to make up a flying spinner tomorrow morning.

Next job was to glue in the exhausts, the carb intake can also be seen pre-painting:
The control horns were then glued to the control surfaces, control rods made up, dummy turnbuckles fitted and the whole shooting match fitted to the model. As a final touch, fairings were added to the upper wing controls:
It doesn't sound much when written down, but it took most of today to achieve..
That's all I'll be doing before the Scale Free Flight Nats at Barkston tomorrow and Sunday. Hopefully, the extra detail will increase the static mark over what the model achieved at he Scale Indoor Nats....

The official results aren't out yet so I can't tell you how others have done, but I'll post a link when they appear.
I have to say that I was smiling all the way home last night and a certain amount of celebratory port was consumed!
The only picture I have of it on the day was on my model cart waiting for it's turn to fly in front of the judges.
