I now have an 11 year old grandson and I feel that both he and myself need to tackle a non digital project so I've bought a Vintage Model Co SE5A and I am determined to finish it, so I'm doing plenty research before I start. I must say that the laser-cut balsa is a giant step forward as cutting out was never my greatest talent.

The thread One Tenor's referring to starts in the link I've pasted below:

It shows a recent build of the kit you've just bought.
If you want to see this and similar models in flight, can I suggest you visit the British Model Flying Associations Scale Indoor Nationals at Wolverhampton University Sports Centre, Gorway Road, Walsall, WS1 3TA to be held next Sunday 1st May from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Entry for spectators over 18 is £6.00, those under 18yrs old are free. There's very good access to both models and modellers plus an elevated viewing gallery and snack bar.
SAMS Models will also be there, with just about everything you would need on sale to complete the model you've bought.....plus lots of other interesting kits and similar stuff! Both Septic, the builder of the SE5A referred to above, and I will be there, too!

My name is Andrew Darby. I'm mainly into simple free flight rubber powered scale models, with a modest span of around 16" to 20" generally. This makes me a great fan of the old Veron Truflite and KK fling scale series kits, which I own all of. I also design new kits for the Vinatge Model Company.
The type of model that I build generally fall into the "Kitscale" category at the BMFA indoor competitions, thorough which I have come to know Andy Sephton, and met Danny Fenton last Sunday.
Anyhow, 'Nuff from me!
Cheers
Andrew

I have a Guillows Fairchild on the go. This is at the larger end of the wingspan range for me as it will be flown outdoors.
The wood is has hard and heavy as hell in the kit, but there isn't too much of it and the laser cutting is good. There is loads of wing area too. As you may know, the biggest problem with Guillows kits (aside from the oak masquerading as balsa) is the plastic nose pieces and lack of provision for stretch winding, but the Fairchild isn't too bad as the plastic nose is small and easily replaced with a proper block....
I was hoping to get it done for the outdoor kit scale at the end of the month, but As ever life will probably get in the way one way or another!

Look forward with interest to your input and ideas, for Danny's sanity please don't design anything with rivets
We are all as mad as a box of frogs on here, mostly harmless.
Enjoy.
