Anyway, I'm a very happy person generally, a have a lovely wife and kids and a beautiful home so I've been thinking recently.....
I hate sleep, and how we humans require it. We're awake 16 hours a day and sleep for 8 (well the average person)
EIGHT WHOLE HOURS. that's a lot of time. It passes seemingly in seconds to.
I've just got up with the kids but it only seems like i when to bed an hour ago.
I want to understand why we require sleep so much.
Is it just some downtime for our brains? Do we need it to extract the energy from food.
And when i've figured why we need it i can figure out how to bypass it haha.
It just annoys me because 8 hours of waking time seems a lot and we waste that time doing NOTHING.
Anyway. just wanted to share my thoughts.
There is not enough time in the day.

The general belief about sleep is that in your waking hours the entire day is put in the 'front end' of the program. When you sleep the contents of the 'front end' are processed (filed). When you wake up the 'front end' is clear ready for another day.
They say that's why older people need less sleep than you younguns, because there's less stuff to process.

Have we been looking at the same website Klippy?... I believe this theory is called "Information Consolidation Theory of Sleep:"
On the same website there are two other thories, here's one of them.
"Repair and Restoration Theory of Sleep:"
According to the repair and restoration theory of sleep, sleeping is essential for revitalizing and restoring the physiological processes that keep the body and mind healthy and properly functioning. This theory suggests that NREM sleep is important for restoring physiological functions, while REM sleep is essential in restoring mental functions.
Support for this theory is provided by research that shows periods of REM sleep increase following periods of sleep deprivation and strenuous physical activity. During sleep, the body also increases its rate of cell division and protein synthesis, further suggesting that repair and restoration occurs during sleeping periods.

"Evolutionary Theory of Sleep:"
Evolutionary theory, also known as the adaptive theory of sleep, suggests that periods of activity and inactivity evolved as a means of conserving energy. According to this theory, all species have adapted to sleep during periods of time when wakefulness would be the most hazardous.
Support for this theory comes from comparative research of different animal species. Animals that have few natural predators, such as bears and lions, often sleep between 12 to 15 hours each day. On the other hand, animals that have many natural predators have only short periods of sleep, usually getting no more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep each day.

If I'm awake half the night, I'm still eager to get up early on a bright summer morning.
If it's pissing down, I could happily stay in bed all day and hibernate.
It's just the same with light around the house...If I want to get motivated I have to switch on every available light .... I can't stand dark miserable rooms.
My workshop uses at least 6 light bulbs including a 5ft flourescent.
Some of the lads on "Live Chat" have noticed by my post times that I've stayed awake for 3 days..... providing it's warm & sunny I can recover from this after a few hours. ...... If it's cold or raining, I'll skip a day & spend 30 hours in bed. :woohoo:
