... what name do you prefer to be called by?
I think I saw you say in live chat that English was your primary language ... you may have a problem with this ... Your English needs a bit of work but will the university penalize you for this?

Unless I'm mistaken, the comment I've quoted should read something like "High Five"... it's a bit different but not very important.

We'll do this project, but you have to do most of the work ... :lol:

I'll write this entire article & challenge any examiner unless they are a model enthusiast.

You can now fwd me any document so start writing your presentation and let me have a look at it... I will throw it back at you & point out any mistakes.

Thanks for the underline quote. when we are happy with someone we usually say different number of finger two, three, four............ i know the correct one is high five but just feel like using our usual happy one. As for the name its Fidelis just trying to put a different to it like physic phydelis its pronounce the same way but my parents spell it Fidelis. Am better now and i have send you something on your email i do not know if you received it.

Hello all,
Can i know why light alloys, Titanium, steel and magnesium alloys are not used for model aircraft because am trying to give reason why i am choosing or why everyone is using wood. becaus efrom properties of materials light alloy has high strength and stiffness-weight ratio and relatively low cost.

First reason - most of us don't have access to metal presses, forges, lathes, etc, all we have is the kitchen table and a few craft knives!
Second - availability. These 'exotic' metals are fine, but try buying a small quantity on the high street. You can't!
It's bad enough getting piano wire, copper tube in small bores, etc, never mind the exotic stuff.
Then - how do you join the pieces? Welding? Nuts and bolts? Rivets?

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Some high strength materials are used in model aircraft. Eric mentioned steel wire for undercarriages.
Carbon fibre is also being used in very high stress areas like wing spars and larger gliders make considerable use of glass fibre just like their full size counterparts but these processes require expensive moulding tools so they have to be 'factory made' and in some quantity to justify the initial cost.

Model aircraft have an advantage that the relative strength of a material improves as the size decreases. For instance a light weight relatively low strength foam can be used very successfully on smaller models.

So its the size and required performance of a model that tends to dictate the most efficient and cost effective building material.

On some foam models carbon fibre rod is glued into slots pre formed in the wings to give the wings extra strength.On ARTF models alloy tubing is used and slides in to preformed holes often made of strong cardboard tubing to join wings together

Another reason for choosing wood instead of aluminium in some cases is because of elasticity.
An aluminium tube or box section may have a higher strength to weight ratio but the slightest bend will cause it to "kink".
Most model aircraft get a few "prangs" and it's often better to use a material that will bend rather than break.

Dural aluminium is often used in undercarriages and cast aluminium is used for many engine mounts.

Must be getting close to your deadline now Fidelis, how's it coming along & can I request a copy of your presentation before you send it?
I know most students leave everything to the last minute but if you let me see it first I will be able to point out any faults.

Hello Pol, The school decided to shift it by four more weeks but never the less i will send the power-point copy to you when it is done. definitely i need you to make necessary adjustment and remove irrelevant point. I ve always known success is not luck it is study, learn and practice.
