I must admit Stephen, I have tried expo and to be honest, I dont like it!! I know it is used to tame a "Twitchy" model, but in my experiance there are 2 reasons for this twitchy state. One is the C of G is too far back, and 2, the control surfaces have too much throw. The manufacturer gives you the throws to use, and usually they are correct. My way of setting a model up is to use the manufacurers settings on 100% throw, and then use low rates to give 50%. If on the first flight the throw is not enough, flick to 100%.
As I said before, I dont like the "mushy" feel of expo, and dont loose sight of the fact that not all TX have it, and peeps still fly without it.

To be honest Gary Ive never noticed a problem with my models being twitchy or needing any mods.I normally set them up to manufacturer recommendations alfa male flies it, if he thinks its to resposive for me we knock the rates back until we are both happy and Im away,and enjoy my flying.

Someone did put expo in one of my models and I hated it just to vagur for me,I like a model that responds and fly accordingly.my only problem is taking off with a more powerful model where the thrust has to be counteracted with rudder.Think that possibly expo on the rudder would help me in that situation.1 of my enjoyable models to fly is the radio queen in a wind.Because its flown on the rudder I somtimes have it coming in almost sideways and it looks spectacular and to an extent I thoruohly enjoy flying 3 channel because its so east with these vintage mosels

Ive spent the morning on getting the engine to tick over at one poit the revs were getting higher and higher irrespective to what I was doing. That was the throttle stop screw loose and screwing itself in .I carefully readjusted it and screwed the lock nut tight so cured that adjusted the push rod onto the servo a couple of toimes and then adjusted the end point on the tranny and its about right. Fitted a new glow plug also and hopefully with a tank full of fuel through it it should settle down ticks over nice ans slow now.

Up early ,cant make sandwiches my son ate all th bread, so 2 bananas , 2 satsumas,2 blue riband and some water will have to do.Though I could have had soup,blow it.Arrived at the field afore anyone else and unloaded .Took the Sparrowhawk for its maiden.Spent time trying to get more up elevator and after we had managed that we were ready for the maiden

I didnt fly because the elevator was a bit fierce.So here is the dilema.We need that much elevator to take off,but not to fly comfortably.So do I go duel rate,or try anf fly with exponential

The landing was excellant and the model flies superbly and needed no trimming,click on the picture

I've never tried editing ON photobucket, i edit first, then upload to PB.

re the sparrowhawk tipping on it's nose, can you ease the legs forward a bit, get them further in front of the c of g, then you could back off the elevator throw a little.
As it is already touchy on ele's in flight, i wouldn't take the c of g back! That could leave you with a real pig to fly!
The other way is to release the model, while on the ground, with the engine idling, then gradually ease in the power, while holding in the up ele, this will give you a gentle pitch forward rather than the top rushing off and leaving the wheels in the grass, if you get my meaning.
The real Mew Gull, and others, were like that. If you just whacked the throttle wide, it would try to swap ends, from torque reaction, and tip over onto the prop.
if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Could you get away with fitting larger wheels?
Your strip may just be a bit too bumpy and large diameter wheels should smooth that out.

Worth a thought. :S
