Lancaster restoration project.

Well worth the effort Tony it's a lovely plane.

Quite a lot of work tony, plenty of pics please, boz.

Finished the rivets on the nose today and made a start on the main fuselage.


added the strengthening strip along above the bomb doors on each side.
fixed the broken former, was a bit like a vet with me arm stuffed up the inside of the fuselage.
still it is fixed now.
the broken tail section has been glued back and just need sanding.


also made a start on front turret detail.




oh i have also removed the rx switch that Garry fitted, as i did not like where he had fitted it.
stuck out like a sore thumb, i need to find a more discrete location for it.

plodding on as usual.

due to the size of the model the rx has it's own dedicated battery.

Well impressed with the riveting it looks the bees knees.

front gun turret is starting to come together a little bit.


and more rivets going on.


i moved the rx switch to the underside of the fuselage, it will be hidden when i re shape the bomb bay.

I like the front turret that's looking really good now

needs more detail yet.
but we shall plod on regardless with it.

finished the rivets on one side of the fuselage today.

i can start the other side tomorrow.

now as the elevators need recovering i thought i would try sticking some silk over the tissue.



i am using diluted ronseal diamond hard floor varnish as a sealing medium.
the first coat of sealer has made it quite strong already, so two more coats will really strengthen the tissue.

well i am still riveting... sheesh.
sat down and worked out how many there will be on the fuselage when it is finished.
it works out at 3000 a foot, so 8ft long fuselage times 3000 = 24000 on the fuselage alone.

can't wait to do the wings.

covered the other elevator with silk today as well.

this has worked very well, they are now tough and still retain the fabric look.

i have finished the alterations to the underside of the fuselage and i am now covering it with silk and sealer.


started adding rivets to the fins.


riveted the canopy as well.


we are plodding on slowly.
