Lancaster restoration project.

Bomb aimer/ front gunner has been glued in position and the nose dome fitted.

then i added all the nose windows and touched up the paint, i still need to add the rivets that hold the glass in yet.
but the nose section is starting to look good now.





i want to print the control column next and then add the dials to the instrument panel before i fit the canopy.

rear gunner is in position, mid upper guns are being made.

Finished the mid upper turret today.
i can finish the painting soon and then move onto the wings.



still it is another small bit done.

Still making a chair for the misses.
but i did manage to pick up some brown paint from B&Q, took a pilot in and had them scan his jacket.
then they matched the colour and mixed me up a batch of emulsion.

so now i have enough dark earth to paint the Lancaster and anything else i build.




we poodle plod along.

Second coat of brown paint applied this morning.
need to seal the fuselage once the paint has dried.
then i need to finish the cockpit off and glue the last two figures in.


so i have got a wing in. (wing ding)
First job will be to move the esc's so they ca get some cooling air.

then i can modify the moulded nacelles to allow for better air flow and then blend everything in nicely.


after that i suppose i will be adding rivets and repainting the wings.

hi Tony have you enjoyed the refurb of the Lanc and are you going to maiden it yourself when its finished

it is either like that or buried inside the motor mount box, there is no where else to put it.
i was hoping that any air would be better than none at all.

i will have another think.

If there is room it would be ideal to mount the ESC under the motor box but as far forward as possible so the air traveled over it and out through a scale radiator exit shutter .

There is just not enough room to fit the esc under the motor mount.

i have had to re do the mounts anyway as they were falling apart.


i have now repaired them and glued them back in place.

then i started riveting the underside of one wing.


while i was doing that i printed off a set of exhausts for the cowls.


back to riveting tomorrow and the refitting of the motors.

i hope to work on the other wing soon.

well life got in they way of modelling until today.

finished the rivets on the underside of the wing.


then i flipped the wing over and painted it black.


i spent some time marking up the rivet lines and then started riveting.


had to stop as my hand was cramping up.
will do some more rivets tomorrow.

oops just noticed i missed a couple of rows on the wing tip, sorted now.

Well i have finished all the rivets on one wing panel.

so i started slopping some paint on the upper surface.


It needs another coat of green yet and the roundel repainting, but it is starting to look ok now.

Rivets look ok.


i still need to blend in the cowls and rivet the nacelles yet though.

i am hoping to start the second wing on monday.

I'm sure I saw one rivet out of line! Seriously - how many must you have applied - and how on earth do you keep them all so immaculately lined up?

well there is 32,000 on the fuselage.
not worked out how many will be on the wings yet.

pencil lines and luck, lots of luck, masses of luck.

The wing looks really good, all those rivets are really worth the effort...all 5 million of them very nice work
