Quite right
Intended as a possible alternative in a shortage of aluminium it was an all spot welded - no rivets anywhere - nevertheless with the same engines as a C47 it weighed 3000lbs more. 26 built.

Budd made rail cars and the joke was it flew like one too!

That's easy
You wouldn't believe how many times it has appeared on "Guess the plane" forums!
They built a bigger version as well.

Obviously lots of 'Flying flea' in its ancestry.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Yeah does look like it's distant relative might be the flee - French registration anyway. Couldn't find it in Janes.

At first glance, one of the Slingsby motor gliders.

I may be wrong but I think its a special.
The rear fuselage and tail look to be Slingsby T49 glider, as are the wings but now mounted low down on a new forward fuselage.

Ah!
When you add an engine to a glider and it becomes a motor glider!
When does a motor glider become a power plane?
When the manufacturer says it is!;)

You might say a motor glider is one where an engine has been added to what was originally an glider yet the Founier RF2,3,4&5 where never gliders as such yet are still classified as motor gliders.

Logical or what!

I have always thought that a motor glider was a plane
that was designed to have its engine turned off in flight

And you don't need to get out to kick-start it again! :woohoo:

They are also referred to as self-launching gliders, as they don't need a tow or a winch to get them airborne.
