Other side of the cowl constructed today.
fits nice and i think it will look perfect once sanded and painted.

started the inner flaps as well.

waiting for some more 1mm depron to finish off the detailing.

Hi Tony. Have you got the Warpaint Series No.86 book on the Wellesley by Ian White? See attachment. It's the best reference I know and includes some great interior photos on pages 38 and 39. Also be aware that despite being generally docile, if it went into a flat spin from a stall it wouldn't come out of it. Spins were banned, but if you look at Jeffrey Quill's book "Spitfire, A test Pilot's Story", he describes on p

ages 100/104 how K7737 did this to him on a routine test at 12,000 ft. He did everything he could and it wouldn't come out, so eventually he had to jump at 3,000ft. Later a RAF test pilot was killed during routine stall tests when K7729 did the same thing. On my minimal indoor version I enlarged the tailplane and put in some wash-out, it flies beautifully. I just thought I'd mention it. The model looks brilliant and I admire your patience in reproducing the geodetic framework, it's the way to do it.

well my 1mm Depron turned up, so i have spent today cutting strips out for the undersides of the wings.
i also glued the cowl together and stuck it to the engine, so that's another job out of the way.

my silk has been despatched as well, so i am getting very near to covering time.
just got the dreaded u/c to sort out.

Absolutely brilliant Tony. Are you still using thinned PVA for putting the covering on top of the Depron?

Tony
I am intrigued to know with only 1 mm clearance whether the covering (tissue?) will sag when the varnish is applied and end up sticking to the Depron sheet inbetween the geodetic strips or is that what is intended to happen?

that's the plan sir, i am aiming for uneven sagging.
as i feel the covering on the full size would alter tautness depending on the weather.

One of my dislikes with Eze-Dope on a one 1/16 square built up tailplane stuke one tissue surface to the other, maybe the answer would be to spray several thin coates.Another thing you might try is color into the floor seal to save a lot of painting later.

I'm so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I'm saying.

i have covered the wings with silk and ronseal.
it looks to have shaped fairly well to the fake geodesic structure, not as well as i had hoped though.
still it will look ok from a mile or more away.

painted as usual with emulsion paint.

we plod on
