I don't think there are very many high-scale kits around. Most builders at that level start with a blank sheet of paper, and draw their own plans up, then purchase the necessary timber to build it - often just a one-off.
-
I'd suggest that you do as I suggested, though, and beg, borrow, or otherwise obtain one of the popular magazines, and look in the adverts columns to see what you can find there that would be more appropriate.
Be aware though, these kits come in various forms, ie plan and moulded parts as one pack, all the woodwork, often laser-cut, in another pack, and then all the small parts and fittings are another pack, and you can spend upwards of £300 for a complete 'all-in' pack, which still requires covering and decorating.

As a start point, look up - www.tonynijhuisdesigns.co.uk and frighten yourself at the prices!

If it must be wood then have a look at "outerzone " there's currently over 3000 plans on there and there all free just download the file and get it printed at you local printshop.
If he fancys a kit then "The vintage model company" have a lovely range of smaller scale kits from manufacturers Dad may well remember, there all laser cut and from what I've heard from others the quality is first class.
hope that helps..

You could look here at the Banggood web site.
There are several quite large Scale kits that follow very conventional build techniques.
Banggood are a very large mail order supplier so it is delivered to your door.

We keep hearing this all the time, I myself had a very long break from the hobby from my early 20's (marriage) until ill health forced me to stop work and take things easy when I was 49 (now 64).Richard Hewitt wrote: Hello everybody...(anybody?)
Just joined this forum. I retired a few years ago and so I decided to get back into aeromodelling after a gap of some 20 years or so.
You must be a very brave man Richard to put all that work into a free flight model.
Welcome to the forum, we're not a huge site but the members are a really friendly crowd and you'll certainly be made to feel at home.
If you have any problems or questions just send me a PM and I'll do my best to help.
Pol.
ps. ... your picture has reminded me that I've got a half built Elf Bi-Plane that I must get working on..... but they do look great naked.
I just own the forum .... you guys make it great thanks.

I was rummaging through the garage, and rediscovered a futaba skysport box, in which was a transmitter, a micro receiver and two pico servos. Also a Cox pee-wee .020.
The last time I looked at them was before we had internets and things.
So every 20yrs or so it seems I try to resurrect my childhood hobby, which was mostly with my Dad (no longer with us). We did the lot. Gliders, Rubber power, C/L, and radio. Also slope soaring on the Snake Pass above Glossop.
So I'm here mostly for nostalgia, but I intend to put the above gear to some use again. Especially as the pee-wee has never flown in anger. As you may have gathered, I'm keen on the small stuff.
So Hi. Nice to be here.

I've already downloaded about 30 possibilities. I can even remember reading the original articles for some of them 'back in the day' (ahem - late 60s/70s - ahem).
My last model was a conversion of a rubber powered 28'' Zero to aileron and elevator control to suit the pee-wee. It didn't get beyond a successful test glide before I dropped a torque wrench on it, which is why the pee-wee hasn't flown in anger....

The Cox Pee Wee was a remarkable engine but it does like some nitro in its fuel, not the 15% to 20% as for the Tee Dee range (I have a Tee Dee 020 as well as a couple of 'cooking' Cox 049s) but at least 5% to start and run well.
I would suggest that you select a powered glider type design to start simple because they are likely to fly more slowly and gently.
Small RC, particularly scale types, tend to fly fast and be very twitchy unless of course you put in a micro 6 axis gyro system, then it will fly like a big 2 m span plane.
The foam ARTF sellers have twigged onto this as a way of selling small scale war birds that can be flown remarkably easily with little flying experience. Like this .
I look forward to following your build.

And yes, I've noticed the fuel problem already. None of the recent formulas are anywhere near the Cox recommended mix, and I don't fancy having to apply for a licence to mix my own. Still, it's early days. I see P.A.W. are still in business, so we'll see.
