I remember building an FW190, of course doping the wings unsupported was doomed to failure, but I didn't know that at the time!

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Hello

My name is Barrie Lever, my good friend Doc Martin told me about this forum.

I like to consider myself as an Aeromodeller through and through, I have been modelling for a bit over 50 years and have flown about everything apart from RC turbines.

My real interest since the early 1980's has been competitive RC pylon racing and I have been all over the World flying and racing.

Recently I have also started flying control line speed models, both RC pylon and CL speed are very pure events, really it is just the stop watch that decides the results.

I like to build pretty well everything on my models except the radio gear and engines, although I do have plans for building engines in the future.

I have a fairly well equipped workshop with CNC mills and routers, lathes, laser cutters and 3D printers along with enough hand tools to equip a factory, but I drive around in old banger cars and don't go on expensive holidays !!

I hope to make contribution to the forum.

Barrie

Hi, Barrie.
Are you the same Barrie that used to fly with the Warrington club, with Maurice Barker, etc?
If so, you might recall me, as an innocent (ahem) sprog, at the time.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Thanks Supertigrefan, you probably know I am a big fan of Italian engines.

One of my plans is an extensive rework on the X29 CL speed engine.

Hello Eric

I have never been a member of the Warrington club but I know Maurice Barker very well, also his son John, who now lives about 6 miles away from me in sunny Hampshire.

I am a member of the Barton control line club at Manchester city airport though.

What am I in Aeromodeller for ? must be something to do with control line speed as Andrew Boddington quite rightly has very restricted RC coverage.

I do get Aeromodeller but I have not been up to the newsagents for a little while to pick up my copies.

Strange coincidence of names, then!
If Maurice is still active, you might like to point him over here! The last I heard of him, he was going back up north - that was late 60's early 70's

Hi Barrie, a very warm welcome from me, it's good to see an oily hand here. Your workshop sounds amazing, it would put my modest efforts to shame.

The Barton speed weekends are cracking good meetings, good modellers, fast models, nice people, what more could you want?

Did the article cover the World record flight? I was privileged to be the National Aero Club (BMFA/Royal Aero Club) representative on site.

Best Regards

Barrie
