A glass bandage was the usual solution to the problem, tapered, of course, thus spreading the high stress area as far as possible, with no sharp cut-off point, which would be where the wing would fail.
I recognise, but can't at this moment, name the other model in Tony's pic. It might be one of Phil Kraft's fleet.

The easy way is to fit a ball and socket on a horn to each ele half, with a Y shaped pushrod inside the fuz. A straight pre-bent torque rod won't work, because the hinge-lines are all wrong. Or you could be clever, and fit tailerons! (left main wing aileron up, left half taileron up) It is supposed to give you a straighter roll.

For the cost of them, I'd use two 7gram servos and a 'Y' lead! Or is the elevator too thin?

Duh, of course the elevator's too thin! The next best option is 2 servos is the fuselage with helicopter style ball joints on the elevator horns. Another way is to use two snakes, but cross them over in the tail so that you get a reasonably straight run to the horn (it doesn't have to be all that straight) the snake will allow a certain amount of movement. Inside the fuselage bind the two snakes together to a single 'Z' bend onto the servo. If you connect close to the hinge line on the horn you'll limit the movement and use at the very least a quality standard servo!
