A nice sized Bristol Beaufighter

Apart from reducing the number of wires connectors building just a modest part of the inboard wing with the fuselage greatly reduces the bending load on the wing joints. For a plank wing the bending load is proportional to the square of its distance from the wing centre line. A joint half way out along the span only suffers 1/4 the bending load. If the wing is tapered the bending load reduces considerably faster along the span.
This means the supporting structure for outboard joining tubes is much less involved and the tubes themselves are also smaller and lighter!  

The 30mm outer tube and the 26mm tube that fits in it  will reach as for as the engine landing gear mounting and a second 18mm tube to the rear of the wing will do the same
The outer wing panels have a 90mm dihedral from just beyond the engine mounts it seems a lot put it says its to scale, it has some very small china ply braces but iv cut some full depth 3mm decent ply braces that are glued the the spruce spars
Been playing with the retracts and they dont fit as is, so im having to make it up as i go along
I have an order from Balsa Cabin out there somewhere they really do take a long time to send stuff
Got the s s tube come today and it weighs heavy, but i wanted steel so i could silver solder the landing gear together, might have to rethink that one

The answer is yes but a high silver content solder as well as a highly active (phosphoric acid ) flux is required.  None of it is cheap!
  

Oh well ill have to think of something else

Not doing to well with this build im still having problems with the wings, everything is built to the plan but nothing seems to fit together, what with the ss tubes not being able to silver solder and now the multi pin plugs i ordered that were advertised as a pair iv only got the male half in the post
 

Got the motors and ESCs today but there is a problem with one of them, the prop driver will not fit on the motor iv tried to fettle it but the 5 bolts that hold it to the motor dont line up
 
Iv emailed them so it will be interesting to see how they respond, it had an invoice label on the package stating the value at £16 - 40 when it actually cost £320 so there was nothing to pay at customs
Im still struggling with the build been setting up the wings 
 
 
And i keep breaking bits off with my clumsy hands   

Someone has put the wrong prop driver in with the motor its a lot smaller the the one that fits

Im making a hatch right behind the cockpit to fit servos in as far forward as i can get them

I was wondering how you were going to get the CoG correct with such a short nose moment. Are you going to put the batteries in the nacelles?

Hi Ralph yes ill put them in the nose in fack iv made the box for them to slide into, im going to make the nose cone out of fibre glass and make it so it comes off with just a twist

I keep breaking something every time i touch the dam thing 

RC-Top mall the model outfit in China that i got the motors and retracts from have emailed about the wrong prop driver and are sending the correct one
That is good service and ill use them again

I have just got back from the chronic pain clinic and its all bad, My shoulder they now tell me they cannot cut the nerve to relieve the pain just injections and my neck is worse as there is nothing they can do about the agony   so for the next 15 years im stuck with a neck brace and pain
