I got the planking all done
 

So i thought i would have a break from the wings as i seem to have been building them forever, so much work in them
So i got the tailplane drawing on the bench and started it, again a lot of building in it, seem you have to build it in 4 halves and then glue them together then join the 2 together with the dihedral

No the tailplane is built in 2 separate parts one each side and each side is built in 2 separate pieces then glued together, then the parts from each side is glued together making a whole piece thats then built onto the fuselage

As you can see not much done today just 4 of the halves 

 of the 8 that make up the tailplane

Run into a problem having built it to the plan i find the cowl will not fit over the planking, iv sanded the 3mm planking down to a point it cannot sand anymore so it looks like its a pull apart job

Lot of dihedral on the tail
 

Trying to come up with a hinge that i can take apart
 

i notice this threads had 1235 views so there must be a lot of people looking in on the forum and not joining us, shame really as we could use some new blood on here

I rebated the 2mm sheeting on the tailplane 1mm so that i could glue a 12mm wide piece of proskin along the edge to act as a cover for the elevator / tailplane joint
 

 

Did some pulling apart where the cowling fits 
 

It now fits in the correct distance from the wing
 

Dont think it needs re sheeting as its only seen with the cowls off

A quick Google search revealed this which gives the actual construction details.

"The tailplane unit of the Bristol Beaufighter featured a hybrid structural construction. While the main horizontal stabilizers and vertical fin were all-metal structures finished with a smooth, flush-riveted skin, the tips of the tailplane were uniquely made of wood. url=https://www.britishaviation-ptp.com/Companies/B/bristol_156.html]1[/url
Furthermore, all of the actual flying control surfaces on the empennage—including the elevators and the rudder—were metal-framed but entirely covered in treated fabric."

The fabric covering of the elevator and rudder are replicated in the bigger scale plastic kits.

The sheeted tail
 

And doing a little more on the gear doors
 

Im going to have to make two plugs as they are not the same shape, sort of a left and a right hand, thats a lot of extra work
