EDF Problems in SR71 Build.

I'm not sure how it works with regard to warranty,..... who's responsibility is it to make sure that retaining collets, (if used) are tight?
I've seen a few motors that use use circlips that are clipped into a groove on the shaft.... if this was the case then the clips should have been able to stand the force.
We're not talking a lot of force here,... it's only the static thrust generated by the fan/prop

I did not realise my incompetance with the leccy warranted it's own thred
The motor has two grub screws at the back and front ,

Just had an email from Scorpion asking me to check the grub screws and use some lock tight on them
I told them it's a bit late for that and on a motor this expencive i should not have to check and if i did and got locktight on the motor the quarantee would be null and void, waiting a reply

I hope that is meant in jest BB. ... I think you've touched on a subject that is possibly a favourite of so called, "Club Experts" .... the truth is, it's only simple if you know the answer.
I know sod all about electric flight, but I am a bit of a scientist & some of my skills are transferable ... this means I can often spot a problem on equipment that I've never seen before.

How do Scorpion expect you to check the grub screws now? .... once the shaft has been withdrawn, the screws should be loose. !!!!
Whichever way you look at it, that shaft should not have slipped the screw unless someone has loosened it!
If that fan had injured someone when it flew off, they'd be looking at a personal injury claim for selling unsafe goods .... just as if they'd sold a car with faulty brakes.

Why not get a bit tough with them & hint that you may get the motor inspected by Trading Standards .... I'll bet they JUMP!

I have never seen one of these fans, but on a normal outrunner motor, the shaft is held by a circlip, to stop it pulling out, BUT also in the pack is a collett , the type that notmally holds wheels on, and they advise you to fit that to the shaft also. So this begs the question, is the circlip enough, as the collett has only been included recently ????

Also must agree that the grub screws should have been tight when the unit was bought. If you buy a new car, do you go round checking every nut and bolt?? No you dont, so why do they ask if the grub screws were tight??? Thats their job , not the end user

Quite right Garry... there's probably no difference in the design of expensive motors & the cheap Chinese copies, ... I'll bet most of them are built in the same sweat shop & then branded.
The one thing I would then expect from an expensive supplier is quality control.
I think BB should demand compensation for the motor, & the damaged fan & tacho.
Any company can have faults but it's how they deal with them that decides how good they are.
Horizon Hobby would have had replacements for everything in the post the next day !!! ... that's why they continuously get the praise.
I think BB should e-mail them a link to this thread.

It's easy BB ... we'll explain how in a different thread as soon as I get chance.
If you want to post your emails from them into here, then just open their e-mail, highlight the text you want to copy, right click your mouse & you'll see the word "Copy"
Then start your post here, right click the mouse & select "Paste"
All the text you highlighted will appear in your post.

Give it a try .... if you mess it up we can just delete it.

I took the motor apart it look's ok (to me) and put it back together useing thred lock, there is a circlip at the front no grub screws, two grub srcews at the back one of them going onto a flat on the shaft.
suppose the clip at the front is for when i reverse :P , have put the other fan on it,now charging the 6s lipos then im going to spool it up again,
On the beach this time
found bits of the tacho im putting it back together at the moment
