sky's aka shane dicast and plastic collection

well i have had a change at flying eg no time, so I'm doing plastic kits and collecting dicast models. the scale i am doing is 1/48 and maybe some 1/72 scale.

the dicast collection is scale 1/72 and 1/100 some corgi and book collection.

also my post will include building projects.dc3,uh1 heli,vampire,corsair with tug and deck diorama

this build is a corsair with moto tug i have started the tug build and painted, the deck is a hobby master 1/48 pre painted deck.

started to paint the cockpit and engine nearly there.

Incredible detail on these Sky, tell me, .... I've often thought about building a scale flying model, & I was wondering if the scale accuracy on the plastic Airfix models was good enough to use as a master template & take measurements off .... I would imagine their accuracy is very high & with a half decent micrometer you could easily scale up.
The last one I was thinking of doing was a BAE Hawk for slope soaring ... Timbo from RCME has one & I built him a new set of foam veneered wings for it ....I I wanted a better scale version, would it be a good idea to copy an Airfix model?

the detail get better with bigger models compared to 1/72 scale, 1/48 to 1/32 are more pricy depends on brand eg tamiya , hasegawa, airfix do do a bae hawk in 1/48
ost models have some detail hidden after you paint them.

it may be possible to scale up plan to get detail.

Lovely models Shane and well built and painted. I have a few of the Fighter Collection as well - I'm up to number 54 I think. Have you seen the Helicopter models put out by the same mob? I have the first 6 in the series so far.

On the subject of scaling up Pol - I've never actually scaled up from the plastic model but I do build them and use them as a guide for super detailing - I've used them that way for my Mosquito, the Lancaster and my Kittyhawk. I intend doing the same for the B25 and that rotten bloody P38 when I eventually tame the kit. It sems to me that the best way to go scale is to scale up from a good 3 view drawing and use a good quality plastic kit to assist. As Shane said it's better to use the 1/32 and 1/48 scale kits for the detail. Tamiya and Hasegawa would be my choice for accuracy.

thanks grumpy, as i like reading my posts any one is welcome to comment on this one, i am not a perfect painter but they do for me. the diacast are from the lastest one im up to number 40 no helicopters in this set.

You say you are not a perfect painter. ??? To me they look very good, and even if they were'nt, does it matter, as you say they do for you, and that is all that matters.

Shane, can i offer a suggestion, to make good even better, surface detail, once painted, get some black paint, water it well down to a wash with thinners, get a meduim flat brush, and loosely brush in one direction, this makes lines, panels, rivets stand out, but it must be thin, with things like instrument panels, and engine detail, use the paint you need, let it dry, get a stiff narrow flat brush, dip it in silver paint, then stub the brush on paper, to remove 99.9%of the sliver, then gently brush it over the engine, instrument bezels, etc etc, you will be amazed at what you get, it makes the mearest detail stand out, try it, you will like it,
