Decided to make some dummy radials for this today.
only doing the front bank as you wont see the second row, plus it would block the airflow.



cut out of 6mm grey Depron and then pained up.

i will stick them in once the model has been covered and painted, but it is another little job out of the way.



need some tube for the u/c legs next.

Added some of the upper ribs in today.
i cut the holes for the wiring run before i fitted them, but i have left the joining tube holes till later.
what i do is warm the end of tube the same size and run that through the ribs to cut the holes, it keeps every thing in line.


Then i covered the top of the cabin in the wing opening with some 3mm.
this will enable me to glue the wing centre section in without dropping glue onto the seats.


I have also started covering the tail surfaces with tissue and ronseal.


need to cover thee other sides once they have dried.
then 2 more coats of sealer to each side and a sand smooth before paint.

now it is an all metal finish, so what paint would be best gents?

Decided to paint it all silver.

First bit of paint going on.

Had one of them days today.
spent hours wiring up the esc's to the motors and making up battery leads.
soldering like a demented thing.

tested each motor separately and got them all running in the right direction.

viewed from the front i have the left hand props turning clockwise and the right hand anti clockwise.
put the props on and fired up the motors, oodles of thrust at 1/4 throttle.

then one motor stopped and would not run
tested the esc on another motor... nothing
tested the motor with another esc and all was fine.
so i have a duff esc arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
found another esc of the same amps in the shed and wired it in.
motor works now, but it does not spin up at the same time as the other three.
so i have ordered a new esc from hobbyking to replace the duff one.

bit of a bugger as this will hold me up with the wing now for a few days.

i hate wiring.


needs to be tidied up a bit more when i have the new esc.
oh well, i can start something new then while i wait.

How long will the longest ESC to battery wire be?
It could effect how long the ESCs actually last.

Make sure you program each ESC's low and high point individually before ganging them up. I had similar problems with my Lancaster and Quadcopter. Once each ESC was programmed then ganged together all was well. Hope this helps. Great build by the way.

I set each esc up separately, then test them in pairs before connecting all 4 up.
was running fine for a while, then inner one stopped working.
oh well. this is the first issue i have had in 20 hobbyking orders.
i got a refund from them anyway, so all's good.
just a shame that i will have to wait for the delivery till next week.
still i can get on with covering and painting the fuselage.

Fuselage all covered and ha it's first coat of sealer.



tailplane and fin gluing on.



Once they have set, i shall run a strip of tissue along each joint and then i can finish sealing the fuselage.

Then i can paint the fuselage and add the markings.

Keep up the good work! I must admit that the Ensign is an a/c of which I have absolutely no memory, more's the pity - it looks SO appropriate for its time frame!

Trouble is that my builds are getting more complex so the speed side of using Depron is becoming less important.

i am aiming for weight loss and more scale detail now in the larger builds.

It is not really surprising as it was only in civilian service for a short period before they were all pressed into RAF service during the war and none lasted to the end.
Dinky did make a model of it. Yours for a mere £70 on Ebay!

Must get two of them!!
