As you cant 'feel' the elevator load there is little point in having them as true trim tabs with their own servo (but it would look ever so cool on a pre flight check! "set elevator trim to take off position"
In full size before the advent of power assisted controls is was quite common to combine both the 'trim' and 'servo' functions in the one tab..

finished sheeting the tailplane.
got the built up leading edge to do and the wire elevator joiner to sort.
then we can try to fit it into the fuselage assembly.
need some more 1.5mm balsa now before i can carry on.
back to the Lancaster then.

finished covering the tailplane and making the wing tips up.
cut the slot in the fuselage to take it as well.
have a decision to make about the elevator.
as it is, it is a one piece elevator with a single control horn in the center hidden inside the fuselage.
my idea (and feel free to shoot me down on this one) would be to split the elevator into two halves and have separate servos operating each half.
still with the horns hidden in the fuselage by using torque rods for each half.
being quite a large model i am just a bit concerned that 1 servo might not be man enough and also to give some redundancy for safety purposes.
might even run 2 rx's as well for extra safety.

This looks a work of art Tony, I would be happy to just put that fuselage on display as it is !!!!
Will you be keeping and flying this one?
Somebody called me 'pretentious' the other day.

If you recall, Tony, you didn't want trivial comments on your build threads! Now you are sulking because nobody has posted any trivial comments......
if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

but it would be nice to have an acknowledgement occasionally
anyway.
the elevator joiner is in and drying as is the central control horn.
final coat of sealer is drying and we can fit it all together in the fuselage later.
then thats it until i have some more wood.

tail plane is in place. that was a fun job.
put the glue in the hinge holes first, then slide the elevator into the fuselage and clamp out of the way.
next feed the tailplane in and twist it so you can slide the hinges home.
adjust the elevator so you get full throws.
leave for 1/2 hour to go off enough.
then clamp the tail plane in place, making sure it is central and level and has the right amount of negative incidence.
you can now glue in place.
leave to dry.
in an hour i can flip the fuselage over and fit and glue the blocks to the underside of the tail.
when some balsa turns up (mr master card bought it) i can make up the fin and rudder, fit them and then sheet the top of the fuselage.
it can then come off of the jig for easier storage..

sheeted and propped in place to get it off the bench.
rudder made up and the trim/boost tab cut out.
need to shape the rudder leading edge, fit the robart hinges, make up the tip of them both and sort out the internal control horn.
then it can be sealed, covered and sealed again.
