Boomerang Sprint

Was not really in the mood for messing with the jet after a tough week at work, but after a brain wave I modded the servo connectors on the solenoids to fit the ecu, so that's another problem sorted. Got the airline pressure gauge and filler valve mounted in the plate which is connected via a 3mm festo in case I need to remove anything.

As things seemed to be going well, I braided a few more lines and ran them under the plate, all tidy and tie wrapped in place. Made a plate to mount the power box switch.....all good. Thought I might as well finish of plumbing the tank, this needed one of the holes in the aluminium cap opening out. Then it happened.....can't find the retaining screw for the tank fitting. Must be some sort of imperial thread in the Sullivan aluminium cap as I've tried everything and nothing fits it. Searched high and low, but it's nowhere to be found. Feel like this just about sums up the luck I've been having with this model, so I stuck the top on and left it.



Not sure if I can get away with tapping out M3, but my taps are buried at the back of my shed and I just can't be bothered tonight.

Ahh, when you get a run of bad luck like that kick it's butt into shape with some determination not to be beaten and I reckon it will all be worth it when you see it fly

I think a good nights sleep did me good. Plenty of meat left in the stopper once drilled out 2.5mm for the M3 tap, so I don't think I will have any problems with that. Made up the remaining extension leads for the thermo couple and the rpm sensor from the turbine, all braided and clipped in place. Finished the plumbing to the tank and the over flow. Put all the little slots in the plate for Velcro restraining straps.



Just a couple of tweaks to fit the two rx lipos in the nose, and a couple of fly leads to make up and it's time to start programming the radio and a test fire of the turbine. Suddenly a bit more excited at the prospect of getting her finished in time.

Its the bit of pipe for the gas supply. Just tucked under the velcro to stop it flapping about. I have an external bottle which I connect via a 3mm festo for starting. once she is away, this gets uplugged and just tucked away.

Managed to get the powerbox sorted and everything powered up for the first time. Set the ECU to the throttle end points. Also from the hand controller you can test the gas and fuel valves (only a bit of clicking on the solenoids). Tested the glow...........all good and then you can test the spinner. Sounds as if it's going for a start up..............very exciting.

Going to test the turbine on Friday after work. Can do my range tests and throttle fail safes as well if all goes well. Will get the video out.

Only a few weeks till the first jet meet and then it's the maiden !!

Bit of sunshine, so out in the garden to get her all plugged together for the first time. All controls checked and set up.



Need to check the c of g, but don't need the wings on for that. I think I can take a fair amount of lead out of the nose which is there at the moment as I've managed to get all the heavy stuff up front.

Next post will be the result of the maiden. Time for a new project to finish off.
