How do you measure the wire
what is 10 gauge ? will it carry the sort of power im putting through it, keeping in mind that the lipo's will be about 15" from the esc's, from leasons already learned it is very high power.
Your thoughts gentlemen please

The smaller the number the heaver the wire. 8 gauge is thicker thn 10. Originaly wire was made by pulling it thru a die the more pulls the thinner the wire. The number reflected in Gauge refers to the number of pulls thru a die.

BB, try a ham radio shop, if you can find one out there. They are likely to have really heavy duty cables.
Or - have a google for a shop called Rocket Radio, or one called Truck King, here in the UK, they sell heavy cable by the metre.
There was a guy on EBAY selling the stuff, too, I'll see if I can find a link, a bit later.

I was talking to a hellicopter flyer this morning at the field and he said Castle Phoenix esc's were known for the fact that they burst into flames!!!! been a big issue with them,
Wish i had known that before i parted with my £500 for the two.  :S
Aparently they are known in the helli world as CASTLE CREMATIONS

Ran a motor in the SR today everything was ok, i noticed the wire on the lipo's 6s 5000ah 65 c was 10 gauge, i am connecting two of these together to make 12s and the wire length from lipo to esc is 15" so i think i need 8 gauge wire for this, it must be 12 gauge i used today for the run.
But finding 8 gauge it is difficult, none here thats for sure .

If the wire from the 6s is 10 gauge and is capable of handling 35C maximum current then putting two batteries in series to make a 12S makes no difference. The voltage goes up but the maximum current each battery can deliver remains the same.
The test is to check if the wire gets unduly warm. If it does then its the 15" length that is the issue not the 12S.
You can always 'double up' wires rather than replace with bigger.

Loads of other stuff useful to us, too, from funny size nimh, led's, chargers, button cells for your calculator or watch etc. Have a look in his on-line shop.

Took the SR for some ground trials yesterday it went well but while it was running around a thought crossed my mine that with the air intakes on the underside of the engine nacils and with so much air being sucked into the intake it might suck in some debrie into the fans and bang that would be the end of the fan and motor, but if i cover the inlet it would restrict the air flow ???

Certainly a difficult one BB, but obviously needs sorting before more damage is done. Hope you get it sorted. But how is a different matter.

Ummm - it's a problem alright - if you put in a fine mesh to stop the small stuff that can do the most damage you are going to restrict the airflow more. On the other hand if you use a courser mesh you don't restrict the airflow as much but you only catch the big bits which are fewer and further between on a salt flat and so do less damage. The old story - damned if you do - damned if you don't. I agree with Garry - no easy solution.
