TN 134" LANCASTER

lets make this official now.

On Thursday i will be picking up all the bits needed to build a tony nijhius 134" Lancaster.
To upset the purists it will be electric powered.
The build will not be starting till after the hurricanes are finished ( or as near as)

Not sure how scale we are going to go on this one, but i might be tempted to cut some templates for a second one so i can go scale mad on that.

Keep your eyes peeled for a start date and updates on the build.

i will be building some big jigs to build the bits on, so i can move the bits around safely.

8' long one piece fuselage will be fun.

i have cleared the space needed to build this one.
i just got to make the building board and we can get started.
as i have all the wood for this one and i am broke, the viscount will be going on hold and the lancaster will be started.
looking good for a saturday the 2nd of june start.

Today is the day that us modellers arose early.A quick check on th weather and a look at the sky,a quick fantasy of seeing a Lanc crossing the sky in front of us,slow laboriuos but a sight to quicken the heart ,seeing such presence in said sky.But we quickly turn on our computers and with thanks to Garry the provider of the Kit and the builder Tony 4 Hurricanes our fantasy is about to be played out before our very eyes,the day the Lancaster build has arrived,go Tony entertain your adoring fans,poly will shortly be offering tickets for the maiden flight,maybe the poorer amongst may win one, in some competition.Like A Spot the model in a picture,count the number of parts to the build,what does the Lanc weigh, the atmosphere is building ,you sould cut the air with a knife,or in Tony"s case the balsa,let the build BEGIN

didn't start in the end, had the telemaster to fix.

Laid out the fuselage plan.
cut out the cnc fuselage formers.
can start to lay it up tomorrow i hope.




The plan is confusing because it shows the formers being 6mm balsa, but the cnc pack is 3mm ply.
also some of the formers are numbered wrong.
still we will get there.

the fuselage is the most complicated bit, wings are easy

you have tonight to decide if anyone wants one.
cos once i have used the cnc bits i cant use them as templates.

OH SHUT UP.

I just have more time than most people and way less money.

Well after my visitor went i made a coffee and popped out to the garage.

Dodged the blackbird nesting on the rack

and started work.

First job was to splice 3 bits of 9.5mm square together for each stringer.
Then we could pin the first stringer down to the plan and lay up the first few formers.
Could only do 4 as the fuselage curves in in front and behind those.

Then we flipped it over and fixed the other stringer on.

Once happy i could take it off the board and pin down the top stringer and start to fit the other formers.

Where the top of the fuselage curves down, i had to glue some temporary supports in to keep the main 2 side stringers level.

and we could pull the rear of the fuselage in, in two directions.

We now have a squarish fuselage that needs to have the stringers finished off and the nose pulled in.

then we can sheet the lower sides and start on the tail.

Started to get too dark in the garage so i have called it quits for now.
Got the rest of the stringers on now.
just need to fit F1 and pull the nose in and then we can sheet the lower part of the fuselage.




Can sit in doors and finish gluing the stringers on.

Had a long day on the Lanc today.

We plod on slowly.

not had a good day today.

been ill for most of it.(dizzy and hot/cold flushes, short of breath and palpitations )
so not got much done at all.

made a start on the horizontal stab.

Got a little bit done.



that's just under 4ft of tailplane.
Needs finishing and shaping, then it will slide further up into the fuselage.

Well gentlemen, after being nagged at by all and sundry for taking some time off.

I did a bit more.



Fins and rudders cut out and pinned onto the horizontal stab.
sheeted the top of the stab and got it to slide into its slot.

Another bit done, we are starting to look like a Halifax now.
