That just looks the mutts nutts Tony
Do you use an incidence meter or just measurements?

tape and a bit of string.
traced the outline of the openings from the plan and marked them on the fuselage, then cut them out and lined it all up using the tape and string method, plus the good old eye ball mk1.

Looking good Tony. I use the tape/string method to set the tail plane square but also check with an incidence meter as I've screwed up in the past by getting the tail incidence wrong. Mostly it's only a matter of a degree or two - either positive or negative but it does make a difference to how the thing handles. Beats the hell out of winding in heaps of trim to get the thing to fly straight and level.

there are 2 ply formers that go under the wing to make the removable section, these help set the incidence of the tail plane as they have to line up with the fuselage bottom.

so fingers crossed it should be almost spot on.

Ahh - your tail plane is removable then - mine is not. That's the difference between a 90" and a 134" model I suppose. I should have twigged when you said it was bolted in - duhhh me.

Still think Gary might have to check it after a while - remove and replace bolts can introduce a variation over time. Suppose it depends on whether or not he has to R & R every time he transports it.

Tony informs me he is planning to make the fuz in 2 halves Grumps, so if that is poss there should be no need to remove the tailplane. If that is how it turns out, I am hoping transportation should be easier.

been thinking about that garry.
have decided it would be best to have the nose come off just in front of the main wing, that way you will not weaken the structure between the wing and tail.
i can get the fuselage down to a 63" length then, so no bigger than a normal sized wingspan.
plus any extra weight incurred by the extra ply needed for the mounts will be in front of the cog.

Sounds like the best solution to me Tony. If it was me I'd divide it there - no appreciable bending stress on the fuselage at that location and you can do with the weight in front of the CG rather than at the middle or down the back somewhere.

well i have glued some locating pegs in the fuselage at the rear to help get the tailplane square each time and have started making the removable section.
need to look at the steerable tail wheel next as that fixes into the removable section.
complicated build this one. :)

Ummm - I'm up to the same problem Tony - mines a little easier than yours because the tail plane is glued in - not bolted - but it's still a challenge to work out how to connect two rudders and a steerable tail wheel in the available space.
