would it make much difference to the flying performance.

The basic Clark Y does all right for me.

I would be very surprised if the YH produced any more drag than the section Tony is using.

I have seen an article giving the results of some model size wing tunnel tests that showed the benefit of more modern sections (using the same chord to thickness ratio) over a Clark Y was limited about 5% at best L/D and not much more at high speed. Significant for a high performance glider but it would very little difference on a scale power plane.
The reason given was the effect of the relatively thick boundary and high viscosity (low Reynolds number) tended to swamp the true aerodynamic properties of the specific wing section.

This sort of thing could explain why the 'stepped' Kline–Fogleman airfoil sections are considered so good for models whereas NASA and others could find no benefit (but rather a penalty) in full size.

as i did nothing yesterday, i thought i better do something today.



need to sand the top down next and then sheet.
then i can work on the wing to fuselage fairing and make the wing tips.

need to order some retracts from HK over the weekend so i can get on with the underside of the wing next week.
it's starting to take shape now.

well the top of the wing is now sheeted and ready for sanding.



Looks like it fits and lines up as well. phew.






so tomorrow i can sort out the servo trays for the fuselage and wings, then cover the underside of the wings as far as the center section.
then once the retracts turn up i can finish the wing off and move onto the nose area.

Got back onto this one today.
started planking up the nose.




can finish planking it tomorrow and then sand to shape and fit the motor mount box.
then we can move onto the retracts.

awaiting final sanding once the filler has dried.


hope to be able to cut it off tomorrow and make the motor box, then fit the screw blocks and put it back on again.

better do an update.
nose is covered and ready to be cut off and trimmed and the mounts making.


Top of the wing is fully sheeted, i have l/e to shape and the tips to do.


underside of the wing has been sheeted to where the u/c goes, u/c mounts are in.

tail plane and fin have been glued together and are ready to fit to the fuselage.

the nose was dry so i cut it off.





made up a base for it and sanded the inside, also sealed the inside for extra strength.
The tail plane is now covered and ready to glue onto the fuselage tomorrow.

Bet that made your eyes water, cold now gone then ??

if the rain stops i can take the wing outside and sand it all to shape.
