Quote from the Mini-Caprice thread: "You have been a busy boy today Andy.
Be ready for covering tomorrow at the rate you are going. "

You're not doing too badly yourself, Tony!! :cheer: :cheer:

When sheeted with balsa do the aux fins actually need spars?
I would have thought a balsa/Depron/balsa fin was already a spar. :P

a bit of 6x6 balsa to help locate the two halves when i slide them together for final glue and fit, it also acts as a stiffener.

Elevators made, well nearly.
cut to shape, hinged and ribbed (for your pleasure :P )
next :P job is to work out where to fit the servos and control horns.
then final sand to shape and i can cover the lot with 3mm Depron.

got 30mm of travel each way at the mo, will this be enough ?.

Look's good Tony - as a matter of interest, what's the span of the tailplane?

Tail plane is sheeted.
finlets are glued on.

i have started the brown paper covering on the tailplane now.

elevators have been sheeted as well. i need to sand them to shape yet and then i can add the false ribs to the outside and cover with tissue.

It does seem a bit odd to create a stressed skin elevator and then add false ribs on the outside so it can be tissue covered to make it look like the fabric covered 'open' structure of the original. :P :P

yup i don't do normal. :P :P

i didn't feel it would be strong enough as an open structure at this size.

well today has been a slow day.
in have sanded the elevators to shape, though the tips need finishing off a touch.
then i added the false ribs to the skin, i will sand them down when dry and then i can cover them.

Also i finished covering the tailplane, needs another coat of pva tomorrow and then i can add rivets.

need to think about the rest of the main wing next.

well the tailplane is covered and it has had two coats of pva.
the elevators have been sanded to shape and are now ready to cover.

so i started the rivets on the top side ( yes i know they should be flush and not dome, but dome looks better)

well there is 469 rivets on that quarter, so another 1407 to go.

Some stringer are probably a wise move considering its huge size and the basic 'flexibility' of Depron.
Whilst the stringers will add stiffness you could loose some of the 'give' that Depron provides so it may actually end up a bit more 'crash' delicate. ;)
