Blackhorse Travel Air

Some good flights today with the Travel Air,bit windy but ok.The stalling engine returned.I found by really warming the engine up its fine.It ticks over and revs superbly at the end of a flight.When it takes off on full power the engine reaslly sings and pulls the model away superbly,and I have to back the throttle off immediately it has some height.On landing the throttle response is excellant so you can slow the model down and lose height and bring it in under power reducing gently until it gently lands its great.

I bought its twin at the bring and buy so I have spares.

The second Travel Air is in superb condition.Ive decided to rest the Swift so this evening have swopped all the gear from the Swift into the 2nd travel Air.The engine is a Thuder Tiger 46 Pro a Xmas present to myself on Xmas day 2008 .It first went into my Super Air,my first low winger which I lost for a month in July 2009 It was retrieved from a field of Rape when they started harvesting the field.It was out there for a month.The Super Air flew again but was grotty inside from damp and started falling to pieces.

Had a good time flying the Travel Air yesreday ,the only problem was to much down in it.At the end of my session of flying I spent time adjusting it mechanically so I have adjustment on the TX when I next take it flying.

Still got to much down so need more adjustment.Trying to strengthen the undercarriage as it keeps coming off at the hint of long grass as it did again when it had a deadstick

Might be better to use bigger wheels as well

I realise Mr Goatie that coating the copper plate with silver, then treating it with iodine vapor for your daguerreotype camera is time consuming for you BUT any chance at some point whilst its drying you take a piccy of this plane?

Ahaaaa!!! that old chestnut again As FTB said, use bigger wheels too.

Travel Air, and its' ilk are notorious for losing the undercarraige mounting plate. I ended up strengthening one I had, almost from the nose back. The weight added was not much of a problem as less ballance lead was needed.

Posts 11 and 12 Sarah,I always fit bigger wheels.When you get a deadstick,where you land is restricted and the wind I was in reduced the glide also as did the height which I had already reduced as I was coming into land.It was best to turn it into wind because The wind was keeping the speed up to high.so there.

Sorry, I saw those ones I meant piccy whilst flying it but forgot to add it. whats a deadstick-a failure or some sort battery wise??

Dead sticks are just bits of wood you use to start a fire.

Usually noticed by the look of amazement on the pilot face, closely followed by the look of terror when he realizes that he is in the wrong position for a safe landing
