The Cyprus A10 THUNDERBOLT

Been lord of the rings today, started the rear moulding,
Started with a load of balsa


Then cut out eight rings, seven at 3/4" thick and one 1/2"
Stuck them all together on the nacelle and began sanding










Im going to make a plug from it and TRY to make a mould and then attempt to do it in fibre glass

Very impressive work BB good to follow a build like this one,out of the ordinary and loads of tips being picked up.You and Tony together are very educational.Idela place to learn to build models from scratch.It shows that even in these larger builds the techniques are the same.

i am loving the look of this one BB.

lots of interesting new ideas for me to play with.

It should be available in Cyprus, it's used here as a building material, I think it's underfloor insulation.
It's technical name is "Extruded Polystyrene"
It forms a great material when covered in Poly C (Floor Varnish) & baby wipes.
Seriously, baby wipes,..... they are similar to tissue but will form around complex curves & are ridiculously strong.
I cut a thin sheet of the stuff & tested it .... great results.

Im also hopeing to get the A10 build going again wanted it flying this summer but i dout it now

Im looking to start on this build again when i get back m the Nats if my plans work out,
Still looking at this aileron / air brake thing, and still cannot see it in my mind,
Thinking im going to need three hinge lines, top and bottom for the brake and a middle hinge for the aileron, one sevo for the brake and one for the aileron, the one for the brake will need to be moving with the aileron, but there is not room to fit it in the aileron ???
Just cannot get my head round it

two servo's for the aileron, one on top of the wing and one underneath. separate leads to the rx.
then program a mix that alows you to use them together for aileron and separately for brake.
maybe?

This is my thinking on the aileron / brake issue

As i dont want pushrods above the wing, the problem is the brake pushrods / servo really needs the be part of the aileron ( but there is not room ) to keep the brake pushrods the same geometry when the aileron moves,

two servo's inside the wing as mentioned above with offset horns, so the horns sit side by side inside the aileron.

It will defo need three hinge points top and bottom for the brake and one in the middle for the aileron

Thought I would do a bit of modelling today, been a long time since I cut any balsa,
So I had a play with the aileron brake,
Made a scale wing tip from the plan and started the aileron



Hinged it at three points, this shows down aileron

This up aileron

This brake deployed

This up aileron with brake deployed

And down aileron with brake deployed

Just the matter of connecting the servos now

I think I have a deal with Demetri with the SU27 in a swap for a new JetCat 100RX I stand to loose a lot on it but its the best I can do,
I have a quote for the repairs to my turbine for the last crash of £500 so I will get that done, it is a lot of money but when I considered that a service for a turbine runs at 300 + it makes it sound better.as it will come back as a new engine
So that means ill have the turbines for the A10.
And it will mean more to me to get the A10 to fly than to fly the SU27
So it looks like the A10 is back on the board when I get home
Im still trying to find A3 size sheets of acetate for the canopy, Andy has kindly offered me one but I think I will need more than one to master the art of canopy making
Just bought a 1/48 scale plastic model of the A10 to use as a guide. as the wings have some serious under camber on them
