so magnets hidden in the wing root and just the friction from the rods will be ok.

I assume you won't be aerobatting it, so yes. If you choose the right ones, they'll give you a kilo or so of pull!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

These magnets are also so powerfull that they will interfere with the radio system, ive been advised not to use them in large units onthe LMA forum, for me, 2x inverted L shaped brackets, bolted to the fus rib, into rebated cut outs, with machine screws though the wing, but the cabane would have to be strong for any system to work, free flight model, magnets, for knockoffabilty, for radio, fixed and safe

How can magnets affect a radio? There's no compatibility between magnetic and radio fields.
I've put neodymiums right against my rx's and not a twitch.

Tony if you haven't sorted out the struttery yet have a look at "The Cub Den" site across the pond. He really has some good ideas on there and that is where I copied my struts from for the Cruiser.

I have magnets holding most of the battery hatches on , and have never had a glitch, and they are very close to the radio

Have you a link to that info Alan

HEY GUYS, just going off what i was told when i did a quiery about holding the canopy onto the big forneir dont shoot the messenger, you hold the wing on how you see fit, but when you go out in the car, open the window at 50 mph, or even 30 the model will cruise at that sort of speed, and feel the force on the hand, BUT, go for it, should be interesting, meanwhile, i will secure my wings by mechanical means, it the engineer in me, re-inforce the re-inforcment, :)

STREWTH 03.36, and still up coughing me guts up, SO, i thought i would put the time to good use, i have put the following on the LMA forum, and await views,

Bit of a debate going on on another forum, a scratch builder of a 90inch auster has asked for the best advice to secure his wings onto the cabane, he does not want unsightly stuff visible through the glass top, fair enough, but its been suggested he uses these new generation super magnets to hold the wing against the cabane, 1st. i think we will see the wings fluttering prettily down, 2nd, i advised against using them, because i have been advised on here, about placing them too near the reciever, could these magnets up set the radio? i think he is using spectrum, not sure, others have jumped in and said the magnets hold no threat to the radio, but, i am only going off what i have been told on here, anyone have any views?

for the record, i have suggested inverted L shaped steel brackets into 2 rebated slots in the top wing, and bolts through to secure the wings, with the neccasary sub structure to take this attachment, using the strut as a working strut, the Auster is 90inch span

It's changing magnetic field that does the damage, a constant field won't be any problem. Also the magnetic circuit will be closed when the wings are on (just like the Magnet keeper we all saw in Science class at school) there will be very little stray magnetic field. BUT the magnets must be face to face with little or no air gap, so securing them is going to be the trick! Do they do ones with countersunk holes in? You can bolt them to recesses in the surface of the ribs.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

drawing up the wing plans today

the wing bits slide on ok.

you can carry the model round by the wing rods now ok.
i need some thinner piano wire to make the rest of the bracing next.
once that is done the cockpit and wing mounts will be 10 times stronger.
